Anderson Silva training at our Downtown Montreal School

Tuesday we had someone special drop by our downtown Montreal School run by Sifu Brian Paquette.

The one and only, UFC Middleweight Champion, Anderson Silva.

His whole entourage was there to get him ready for his Saturday fight against Thales Leites.
Using Sifu Brian's cage and equipment to put the final touches on his game and lose those last few pounds to make weight, it should be another victory for the Spyder.

One of Anderson's early role models, like most of us, was Bruce Lee.

Watching him in his movies gave him the desire to start the martial arts.

He has a "penchant" for Kung-Fu because of Bruce and was interested in the Mook Jong or Wooden Dummy Training.

Sifu Brian proceeded to show Anderson the steps to using the tool and gave him a copy of our Wooden Dummy DVD and we're arranging to have a few Mook Jongs shipped to him for his upcoming camps.

What struck us the most was how nice they were. All eager to learn and share. No egos.

Some of the fans of Mixed Martial Arts always seem to be very obnoxious and disrespectful on forums and chat rooms if someone practices something different than MMA.

It was nice to see that a real champion never misses an opportunity to learn something whenever he meets someone new and is still down to earth when off the stage.

We'll be reconnecting with their team in the near future and wish Anderson another victory Saturday night.

Sifu Martin

P.S We'll be posting more pictures of Anderson's training session as they become available. Check back soon.

Demoralize him from attacking again.

Which tool can you use to build super arm conditioning, close quarter striking power and clean, crisp fluidity?

My very first Blog was on Wooden Dummy training and for good reason, it was one of my first great obsessions.

When I first started learning it I couldn't stop and proceeded to learn all 117 movements in one day.

You might be intimidated by that number, 117 movements, but I can assure you I've developed a very fast and unique way of learning the techniques over night.

Because the method I reveal to you is the very same method I used when I was just a little boy.

If you're training in FSD right now and learning the wooden dummy techniques are just around the corner, I would recommend you get a head start and pick up our 3 disc set and quickly master this tool and use what you learn from it and apply it to your close quarter entries, nerve destruction techniques, closing and trapping skills.

If you do not own a Wooden Dummy or if the school you train at doesn't have one, the techniques can still be applied in the air, against a heavy bag or on a partner's arms.

By clashing your arms strategically onto your opponent's arms (ex; radial nerve, biceps, etc...) it quickly demoralizes him from attacking again.

Since your hands and arms are your main striking tools it's a good idea to make them as strong and tough as you can get them.

Master Yourself,

Sifu Martin

P.S. Arms are like guards to a castle (your body), they are there to protect and shield you from harm, make sure the guards, like your arms are tough as steel.

Learn how here.

2 special martial art seminars in Ottawa

There's always something happening in our schools every month. And this month is no different.

This Sunday (March 16 th) at 10:00 am we're holding not one but two highly anticipated seminars at our Ottawa Kung-fu School.

Our always dynamic and fun Speed Training Seminar focuses on speed drills, secrets to speed, how to increase speed, how trying to move fast will actually slow you down, 2 man drills to increase reaction time, the rule for hand speed, and the best exercises to get your muscles ready for action.

You must be thinking you need alot of experience to attend one of these seminars?

You don't.

Because we're not teaching techniques, we're showing you the principles to increasing speed and reaction as well as getting you doing the drills which will ultimately get you moving faster by the end of the seminar.

The other seminar transitions well with the speed training seminar because it uses some of the same principles and helps develop speed and finesse while combining all of that with power.

We're talking about the one and only Wooden Dummy Seminar.

Held right after the speed training seminar, students learn the quickest and most effective ways of learning the original wooden dummy sets, the real reasons for using the wooden man, what you can expect to develop from training with this device, finding an equilibrium betwen Jing and Flow, how learning the different "blocks" leads to mastery and all that within a few minutes.

You can get a heads start by ordering the Speed Training DVD right here, that way you'll have a good idea of which drills to do prior to attending the seminar.

You can also put in an e-mail request for our brand new 2 disc, top & bottom camera angle, Wooden Dummy DVD just released last week at montreal@fangshendo.com and we'll ship you a copy immediately.

Let's get to work this weekend,

See you there,

Sifu Martin

Arms of Stone

Nothing strengthens the arms and hands like a wooden dummy. Results show very quickly. Your palms, wrists, back of hands, fingers, inner & outer forearms are all being re-inforced simultaneously.

Some of the other benefits are increased speed, flow, crispness, kicking techniques, close quarter power (improve you power punch), footwork, distance, power, and balance. I've been using the Mook Jong (Wooden Dummy) for about 22 years now.

I used to stand on a chair to practice. Looking back on my training, I have to attribute some of my foundational growth to this device. We teach classical sets as well as "free-style" ones. The first key principle: "it is a Means to an End". Meaning it's only a tool. Once you've learned the classical sets, acquired super arm conditioning, Jing (life, or snap), flow and speed, you move on to creative flow.

Another way to challenge your development is to blindfold yourself. "Seeing" and "Feeling" through sense of touch. There's always a way to challenge yourself and take it to another level.

We don't just like the classical dummy but also modern ones.

Some of our collection (over 50 different models) range from: spring loaded (which adds a more human feel), breakable arms and legs, moveable (on wheels), with timer, steel, adjustable (height), padded, etc...

Not only will wooden dummy training make you physically tougher but mentally as well.

Aim Higher,
Sifu M
