Priceless Life Lessons

Every year on March 10th I reflect on where I started and how far I've come.

Even though my father started my training at the same time I started walking.

March 10th, 1985 marks the date of my first official exam ( i.e White Sash) in my martial art training.

The first rank is always memorable as it marks the beginning of your journey, and if taught right, what you learn at this level will serve you well throughout your ascension to Black Belt and beyond.

In September 1984, my very first class, I learned an important lesson that will surely stick with me for the rest of my life.

Lately I've been getting many flashes from my childhood, like one of my past posts about the split test my dad had me do when I was 11 years old.

Have you had these happen to you?

I'm sure you have.

We all have them but I tend to focus on the ones where I learned something important or that I was successful at doing. That way, I can use it to get myself in the right state, physical and mental in the present moment when undertaking a task or project I'm working on.

These are every important for your self-image and using past successes to fuel your goals and dreams in the now as well as give you confidence knowing you can accomplish them because of those successful past experiences truly is priceless.

So what did I learn on that faithful day?

My dad had us all lined up and ready to start class.

Since I was training and watching classes way before I ever did an official one I already knew how to start the class (a very short form to get the class started that consists mostly of testing your balance and coordination) and I wasn't shy about letting the guy know in front of me that I knew it.

At that point, my father gave me the "LOOK".

That one look, with no words exchanged taught me a lesson that I would carry on in my training even to this day. I don't think any of the other 6 year olds got it but I did.

"Whatever you think you know, you don't"
"When it's time to talk, talk"
"When it's time to train, train."
"There's always something to learn if you just pay attention well enough".

That right there has served me alot in my 26 years of training. This one lesson as well as many others have been very valuable in all areas of my life.

All this to say: Use your PAST and get back to basics.

Attack everything you do with a beginner's mind. Not only will you have more fun doing what it is you do, you'll learn faster, your enthusiasm and passion will soar and you'll get a different perspective on what you think you know.

Stay on Top of ...

YOU!

Shaolin Demonstration Patenaude Kung-Fu

Every morning. During the day and before retiring at night.

Stay on top of You.

Monitor what you do, what you think and what you feel.

Approach it the same way a drill sergeant stays on top of his recruits.

Just like that classic scene in Full Metal Jacket.

Imagine if you kept such a tight control over your appetite, your level of activity during the day,
your thoughts, and your level of unwavering commitment to the goals you've set. How would you feel?

Looking at levels of obesity in North America in both children and adults, clearly, many people have failed to stay on top of themselves.

Although there's no other time than now to start taking care of your health, if you ask me and I think you'll agree, it's better not to wait until you've passed that point of no return to start doing something about it.

Have enough foresight to not wait to be diagnosed with Diabetes to start watching your sugar intake and exercising regularly. Same thing for lung cancer, avert the dreaded news by quitting the habit of smoking now, not later.

Control inflammation (the major cause of artherosclerosis) in your body by eating the right foods and supplementing with the right nutrients today instead of making it a priority later if you're lucky enough to survive a heart attack.

Listen to your body, pay attention to how you feel, make a mental check when you retire at night about the healthy choices you've made during your day, sleep peacefully and wake up with discipline to take care of your machine by staying on top of you today and every day to avoid massive pain later.

Master Yourself,

Sibok M

P.S. An easy way to stay on top of you is by training smart. Our 60 second training method boasts results in record time. One less thing to think about. Get started here.

Full Split with No Warm-Ups

Back in 1989 my dad started what we called back then "Special Classes".

These classes were reserved for advanced students and were a way to test a whole bunch of different concepts and techniques from a wide variety of martial arts systems to see if they worked.

The gamut of arts we experimented with was extensive and none of them were excluded.

There are many lessons I learned during these sessions and one that comes to mind is the one on "Having no mind".

Let me explain.

At one of these classes my father was explaining this concept and how adults will sometimes over analyze and question "why should I do this" or" why should I do that" either in their heads or to their partner.

And through this analysis, you've heard the statement: "Being caught in the paralysis of analysis" settles in.

This analysis brings self-doubt, hesitation, and fear.

At that moment, my dad put me on the spot.

I was only 11 years old at the time. Just a kid.

What my father went on to explain is when you're a child you don't question like adults do, you just DO.

No questions asked. No excuses. No negative self-talk. No procrastination.

He says: "Mart" (Everyone called me that before I was ever made a Sifu)

"Come up here"

I didn't know what the hell he was going to have me do and the class was packed with grown men staring at me.

"Do a full split to the floor, and Daniel and Christian will lift you by your feet from each side, straight in the air and hold your balance".

I had never done that before but that day I did.

My goal isn't to share this story with you so you can say: "Wow you're great!"

On the contrary, I just want you to know that you're great. You have the potential to do anything you set your mind to.

BELIEVE and it can be achieved.

Instead of finding all the reasons why you can't do something, Focus on doing the THING and with repetition you'll master the thing.

Reach the point of No Mind, have total confidence in yourself and just go for it.

Master Yourself,

Sibok M

P.S. Stretching is a great mind challenge. That's why I enjoy it so much. We've compiled some of the best stretching exercises you can do to reach total flexibility and finesse on DVD. Listen as I go through other important techniques I use to acquire, maintain, and not lose your flexibility.

It's a great resource that no martial artist or athlete should be without. Get it here.

I already know that!

Zig Ziglar's answer to this all too common statement is:

"Maybe so but what have you done about it!"

Think about that.

All the things that you know but didn't act upon.

Or the things you were going to get around to doing when the kids would be all grown up or when you lose X amount of weight. Maybe it was when you were going to graduate or when you got that raise you were going to do that something you always wanted to do, but never did.

"Faith without works is dead"

No matter what you know, in the end, ACTION is the only thing that counts.

Have you ever met people who seemed to know it all?

Do you fall into that trap sometimes?

I know for me as soon as I catch myself thinking: "I already know that" I add the words: "But I want to learn more about it"

Learning is a journey not a destination that's for sure.

And the journey is much more enjoyable when you face each experience with an open mind and child like enthusiasm.

You already know you should cut sugar, avoid processed food, eliminate soft drinks and spend more time strengthening your mind and body through exercise, getting in the habit of performing deep breathing techniques to cleanse your body while bending and twisting your body for maximum flexibility.

If you know it then DO it!

If you need help in those areas I'd love to help. Here's a list of products that can help bridge the gap between learning something and actually implementing it.

Your Greatest Mission

We both have an important mission you and I.

Do you know what it is?

This quote pretty much sums it up:

"Men go forth to wonder at the heights of mountains, the huge waves of the sea, the broad flow of the rivers, the vast compass of the ocean, the courses of the stars, and they pass by THEMSELVES without wondering." ~ St-Augustine

Sunset along the beach

How amazing is it to be here, fully conscious, with the ability to create the reality we wish and experience life to the fullest.

Do you realize the amazing potential you have locked inside?

Your most important mission, responsibility, or job is developing, knowing and challenging...

YOU.

I happen to like the martial art path because of the fighting spirit it instills in you and the self-discipline you need to stick with it.

Many paths can keep you on the path of self-mastery. Find yours and be dedicated to it.

How sad would it be to go through life and only realize when it's too late what you could of really accomplished if you only took the time to realize how special and lucky you are?

Just something to keep in mind and ponder about as you start your week off.

Something us men take for granted

As many of you know I live in a Japanese Style Pagoda which boasts a 3500 square foot training area which is also our studio for filming most of our training DVDs.

Every week on Wednesday I hear the crack of leather, deep breathing, feet shuffling around and women moaning and groaning to do one thing:

Have the body they've always dreamed of.

It's not easy to stay in shape. Look good after having had kids or drop unwanted pounds.

Something us men take for granted.

My sister, Sifu Christine has been drilling groups of ladies in our various schools to do just that.

To get women off their butt and working towards harnessing their inner strength.

In many ways women are stronger than us (yes I hate to admit it, but I couldn't see myself giving birth or handling the stresses of raising my kids on my own)

Some need to be reminded of this strength and what better way to do that than to start training.

She's designed a unique way of training to help women get started from where they are right now when it comes to their fitness level and get them ready for more intense workouts within the span of 5 weeks.

When she created these DVDs she had 3 areas she wanted to develop:

1. Pre-Natal Fitness.

Most women gain the most weight while pregnant and don't know where to get started after they've delivered their babies. In this DVD my sister is 9 months pregnant running through the steps she took and will take before and after the delivery.

2. Maintaining Fitness.

It's one thing to lose the weight but keeping it off is another story. These Workouts are designed to be very efficient, short, fat burning sessions. Even if your wife or girlfriend can't make it out to a live training, this DVD goes through the steps in great detail. Warrior Fitness can help drop up to 10 lbs in 5 weeks, it's that good.

3. Personal Protection.

Once you have the body and the confidence you're looking for, you want to protect what you got at all cost. Women's Self-Defense is a simple, effective "kick in the pants" to any would be attacker trying to put his hands on your wife or daughter.

If this sounds like something you would be interested in for the women in your life or you are a woman reading this and would like to get started send me an e-mail at info@fangshendo.com if you have questions and I'll help get you started.

Forgot the Reward?

After a full year of hard work we all need a little bit of pampering and some sort or reward.

Just like my last day in China, after my intensive schedule (a 2 hour training every 4 hours, around the clock, day and night for 10 straight days) I paid myself a very unique kind of Chinese foot massage.

Chinese Foot Massage

With most of the training being mostly static, immoveable, standing positions, my feet were in need of some pampering.

After, walking outside felt like walking on sponges, I was relaxed but rejuvenated at the same time.

Which is exactly what you should do as well after you've maintained and "stuck with" a certain fitness routine or you've followed healthy eating habits or lost the desired weight.

You should celebrate with some sort of reward.

The biggest mistake people make is reach a goal and immediately set another one without rewarding yourself or taking the time to treat yourself to some sort of self-indulging activity.

It's during that reward time that you can reflect on how good you feel when you do what you've set out to do (exercise regularly, eat right, no smoking, reaching a certain rank in martial arts, etc...) and you can even smile and think about all the people who told you you couldn't do it or didn't believe in you.

Then when you return to maintaining and surpassing the goals you've set, you'll attack them with double the enthusiasm and determination while feeling refreshed and unstoppable.

Sibok M

Legalized Drug Pushers

One week today I was boarding a plane for a business trip with my dad and happened to be sitting next to a group of high level pharmaceutical owners and employees who were on their way to the same hotel we were staying in for their end of year celebration.

I was close enough to hear some of the comments being passed around.

There must of been at least 30 of them.

One lady sitting next to us engaged in small talk and made a comment that pretty much sums up how the pharmaceutical industry really feels about our well-being and health:

"I like it when people are depressed and sick, we make more money".

Keeping you sick and treating your symptoms instead of the root cause of an illness means big bucks for these legalized drug pushers.

In my head I told myself: "You'll never make a dime off my back".

I'm also of the opinion that your health is in your hands, it's hard to tell these days if your doctor really has your best health at heart. How do you feel about that? Me, I was happy to know that I'm not their best customer.

In fact if everyone went to the hospital like I do, well there wouldn't be any hospitals or pharmaceutical companies would turn a "loss" every single year (instead of billions off of your back) and if there were hospitals, they would be for the people who really needs them.

Get in the habit of researching stuff for yourself. When a prescription is given, usually 10 times out 10 there's a cheaper, natural way of treating it.

I just got courses called Nutrition and Healing from Dr. Jonathan V. Wright. Eye opening stuff.

I'll let you know some of my findings in the coming weeks.

I'm not saying you should never visit your doctor. I'm just saying don't be so quick to reach for an over the counter drug or pay for a prescription given just to increase Big Pharma profits to later hear them brag about how many suckers bought their products.

I'm sure some drugs are important and vital to keeping someone alive during an operation or things of that nature.

But that lady really sealed the deal for me.

I'm going to be very careful to take care of MY health and I encourage you to do the same.

Take the Stairs

Stairway to Success
Although this is good advice from a fitness point of view it's not what I mean.

When it comes to your personal development make sure you take the stairs, not the elevator.

Taking short cuts in this area is not recommended.

Sure the elevator is quick and effortless but nothing worth having and fighting for is acquired through its use.

The elevator to the top is, has been, and always will be "out of order" in my view. In order to get to the top in any endeavor you'll have to take the stairs.

And you'll have to take them one at a time. Luckily they are right in front of you and you know exactly how many stairs you need to climb to get to the top.

Then when you do reach the top you'll be armed with the right tools to stay on top.

You can choose to look up the steps or step up the stairs? Which one will it be?

When establishing a strong Martial Art Foundation, specifically in Fang Shen Do or whatever style you practice, the first step I would recommend is FSD's 10 secrets volume which also comes with 2 free bonuses.

An orientation DVD that furthers your understanding of the foundation and a goal setting tool we use to get you on track and focused when obstacles might get in your way.

Take the first step here.

Are you aware this is happening?

After today's morning workout, I went through my standard ritual.

When doing this "thing", my thoughts are very clear and my level of self-awareness rises dramatically.

I'm talking about stretching and flexibility work.

You too have probably realized this fact:

Losing flexibility as we age is the rule, especially if you never stretch.

You make it worse if you sit at a desk all day. But some regular exercise and proper stretching can slow the decline.

Our ancestors never sat as long as we do. They were constantly on the move to hunt and survive.

We were never meant to have lower back pain, most blame nerve issues, muscle problems, a bad mattress or bending over to pick something up but the major cause of it is simply too much sitting.

Just think of the time you spend sitting down during your day?

No wonder it is estimated 90% of us will experience back pain at some point in our life. Tight hip flexors is a common cause of back pain due to over-sitting.

Making sure you complete hip circles as taught in the "Nadeau" technique or folding at the waist both front and back, and performing simple lunges are very easy ways to loosen up the hip flexors.

Flexibility training is a must to all martial artists and should be part of your daily routine.

Look here to get a peak at what we do in Fang Shen Do when it comes to getting your body limber and pain-free.

Only for the Elite Class?

Just got back from an amazing weekend with my dad and brothers in Punta Cana.

Although bathing in the sun was relaxing and energizing it couldn't compare to what we were exposed to, "Information Wise" over the weekend.

As you might already know, secret societies have existed for thousands of years.

There is one such society that is opening its doors to share with the world, information that was once kept only for the Elite Class.

What does this have to do with martial arts?

A martial artist is a warrior in every area of life, not just learning how to defend one's self or the ones you love but also protecting yourself from "Dream Stealers" and "Energy Leeches".

Losers talk about Action. Winners Act.

In anything you do it's important to surround yourself with like minded people. People that raise you up, not pull you down.

Keeping this information for ourselves would be wrong.

Which is why the first thing that came to mind today was sharing this with you.

Hang out where we hang out, you need to be referred though. Invitation only.

To access some of the info you'll need this affiliate code: 1508504

Visit this site only if you think you're worth more and think that in your life you feel like saying:

"I can do better than this!"

You can choose to become an affiliate (it's free) or become a full fledged member.

Fruit is always on a limb

In other words, nothing is ever easy.

To quote Zig Ziglar: "Most people wait until everything is just right before they do anything. They refuse to go out on a limb because they don't understand that the fruit is always on the limb."

Everything requires a little bit of effort, action and faith.

You have success and a personal champion within you waiting to be discovered.

Do you know someone who is "gonna do something just as soon as..."

Do you know them personally as in, maybe...You?

The people who wait until everything is "just right" before they do anything will NEVER do it.

The time will never be just right to start training and losing weight. Nor will it be to stop smoking, changing the food you eat or starting your own business and making a living doing what you're most passionate about.

This is the underlying principle of the Fang Shen Do System. To knock out the "I'll get around to it" mentality plaguing so many people today.

The best way to get things done is to FEEL good. And what better way to do that than by first mastering your body.

A strong body invariably leads to a strong mind that ultimately gets you to follow through on what you want the most.

Here's how to do it.

What's Important?

Deep Breathing TechniquesWhat you're doing right now.

The Art of Procrastination

Have YOU mastered it?

Resort to it every once in a while?

Or, NO, you never use it?

It's in your best interest that you don't.

Cause it will definitely lead you ...

Nowhere!

Procrastination makes you hesitate and miss golden opportunities.

Procrastinaton is the enemy of progress.

Procrastination spawns from being too comfortable.

In prehistoric times, procrastination certainly meant death. Can you imagine our cavemen ancestors refusing to hunt because they were too tired or lazy to do so.

To me procrastination still means death. Failure to act and let a goal slip from your grasp is a missed opportunity to breath new life into your heart and soul.

Having the life sucked out of you doesn't sound like a pleasant experience yet millions of people fall victim to it around this time of year.

Stick with your goals and see them through to their completion.

I hear and I forget

With 20 days into the new year, how are you doing?

Did you follow my advice and knock off the easiest goals on your list so you get the ball rolling and in turn create a surge of energy and excitement for the accomplishment of your other goals?
I hope you did.

I can tell you, I did that, and man am I ready to get things done this year.

It's just simply impossible to have different results if you do the same things, the same way, using the same words and repeating what you did last year.

"If you do what you have always done, you'll get what you've always got."

Trust me, start with the little goals and expand from there.

You'll build enough momentum and confidence to tackle your major goals.

A famous poet once said:

"I hear and forget.

I see and hear, and I remember.

However when I see, hear and DO, I understand and succeed."

Keep your goals fresh in your mind's eye.

Listen, read and stay inspired.

Finally, ACT on your goals daily.

Watch who you listen to

With the upcoming renovations in Kanata and the construction work that needs to be done I can't help but think about common construction jargon.

If you've ever had work done in your house you'll understand what I mean.

It's hilarious.

The same subject always comes up without fail.

The person that comes in for the estimate and to inspect the work that needs to be done will always say this:

"Which _(Add defamatory word here)__ did this work?

"What the _(Add defamatory word here)__ was he thinking?"

"He did the work all wrong?"

"We'll make sure to do the work right".

And surely if another worker would be brought in after the new renovation he'd repeat pretty much the same thing about the new work done: "Who the hell did this work?"

"What effin' dummy..."

Makes me think of the same disease plaguing martial artists.

And especially on discussion boards and forums.

You'll find the same kind of behavior in the martial arts world.

Watch who you listen to.

The internet is filled with so called experts.

The answers aren't found in cyber space.

To quote Bruce Lee:

"There is no ultimate style. The ultimate is inside of You.
Be true to yourself and your journey through life"

Are you constantly working on the ultimate You?

What have you done today to get you one step closer to achieving your goals?

This is YOUR year

January is my favorite month!

You're given a chance to wipe the slate clean and attack the new year with optimism and gusto.

It makes you feel like you're starting fresh, it makes you contemplate and imagine a long list of endless opportunities and possibilities.

This is YOUR year.

Clearly map out what you're going to do this year.

Visualize and actually imagine NOW how you will feel when you've reached those goals.

Express gratitude for what you have and what is to come.

Figure out what drained you last year and what could of pushed you off course and correct it.

Throw procrastination out the window.

Refuse to settle for: "good enough".

Acquire a burning desire for the attainment of your goals.

The fastest way I've found to understand the concept of developing a burning desire, and this at record speed, is through a unique way of training we've incorporated in Fang Shen Do.

Once understood, it's easily transferable to any other goals you might have.

It's what I personally used as a kid to lay the foundation of discipline, follow through and a "never give up" kind of attitude.

You can find out more about it here.

Inside Kung-Fu Article

I hope your training went well this weekend and that you are constantly making strides in the areas of strength, speed, endurance and flexibility.

I wanted to point you to a 3 page interview in the latest issue of Inside Kung-Fu (March 2010 Issue), "A Life Changing Experience" by Inside Kung-Fu Editor Dave Cater where he interviews my dad, Sijo Jacques Patenaude on what martial arts training can do for you.

If taught right, martial arts can help you accomplish more than just learn how to kick, punch or grapple.

Strive for excellence in every area of your life.

Fight for what you want, dream big and let no one tell you otherwise.

Well worth the read.

Put all the chances on your side.

China Ming Tombs Giant Turtle Sibok Martin Patenaude

Are you of the opinion that YOU create your own luck or that sacred objects can bring you luck?

Is the mere act of writing down goals enough to get you what you want?

Whatever you might believe, in the end, you'll have to take action towards your goals.

The reason I bring this up is I still ended up rubbing the turtle's head for longevity and good fortune at the Ming Tombs while on my trip to China last year.

I thought I'd better put all the chances on my side.

Same thing for your fitness goals.

Only relying on the actual exercises you're going to do and not paying attention to what you eat will lead to less than stellar results.

Or going at it alone and failing to have some sort of support through a group or club might be a challenge when your motivation and will power are tested.

Put all the chances on your side so you can achieve maximum success.

The first step is actually knowing what kind of exercises, in what order and at what frequency, you need to do them in.

You'll find the answer to these questions and more by getting to work on our Basic Strength Training Kit. It's the first step in acquiring the kind of foundation you need to make struggling with your weight, muscle toning issues and general health problems disappear.

Get started now.

Watch the Results Show

It's hard to believe a decade has already passed in the "not so long ago" new millenium.

A wise man once said about goals: "The important thing is not where you were or where you are but where you want to get".

10 years can fly by and without planning, can seem like you haven't accomplished much during that time when you look back on it.

Your future should not be left to chance.

For a forward thinking individual each of the 10 years that have passed was a step closer to reaching your master plan.

Without goals you cannot grow, you'll feel like you're stagnating.

If you've never written goals before I urge you to start this year. If you share this habit, keep it up.

Write easy, yearly goals you can knock off in 12 months and remember to focus on creating an image of yourself 10 years from now.

What do you want to accomplish in your life? What do you want to be? What level of responsibility do you seek? What kind of standard of living do you want for you and your family? How strong and healthy will you be?

Questions of that nature.

To quote David J. Schwartz: "You must form an image now of the person you want to be 10 years from now if you are to become that image".

What a difference this kind of thinking has made in my life and my training.

Apply it to yours and watch the results show.

If you've done like I have and chosen martial arts training to improve every area of your life, you're in luck.

You'll find many DVD courses and books in our Product Section to help you do that.

Be on the lookout as well for new, up and coming DVDS, Books and Courses soon to be released in the new year.

Let's make 2010 your best year yet.

All the Best in the New Year

The new year is coming.

Will you be ready?

You already know that written resolutions without taking action on them is a waste of time.

How do you "muster up" the will power to act on the goals you've set?

As a rule of thumb, start by the goals that are fairly easy to accomplish this way you'll build momentum and confidence. Or find a way to chunk down a goal.

Like losing weight.

Instead of focusing on losing 50 lbs right away in January, which might now seem impossible, overwhelming, and so far fetched, turn your focus to losing 1 lb a week.

This mini-success so to speak will get the ball rolling and help you believe you can do it. You'll surely end up losing more than 1 lb a week once you start getting results and most importantly getting inspired.

This same principle can be used in "flexibility goals" for example or "strength goals".

Chunking down is by far the best way to actually follow through on the goals you've set in 2010.

I'd like to thank you for being one of my subscribers and even more so if you were a customer of ours this year, I really appreciate it.

From my family to yours, may you have an adventurous, fulfilling, and prosperous new year.

Never to be Forgotten

China Great Wall TabletsAt the Great Wall I admired these great big stone tablets lining the walls before starting our ascension through this wonder of the world.

The wall's history is set in stone never to be forgotten.

The stone tablets reminded me of the importance of writing, preserving and documenting goals, both past and present as they serve you in keeping track of YOUR history.

It serves you as a reminder of:
  • What you were thinking about.
  • What needed to be accomplished.
  • Your dreams.
  • What you went through to reach them.
  • Who you were and who you've become.

I still review goals from 2, 3, 5 years ago.

Just the other day I crossed off a goal I had written 7 years ago.

Wonders of the World Great Wall

Once you plant a seed in your subconscious mind it doesn't forget. It will be hard at work making sure it accomplishes what you set out to do even if it means taking a few more years for its completion.

When reviewing past and present goals you can't help but feel really happy that you took the time to write and record your thoughts and put a part of you on paper.

Your life and what you make/made of it is worth recording right?

Here you are at that time of year again where you have to prepare for next year's experience.

Physically, where will you BE at this time next year?

How much will you weigh? How strong will you be?

What about Flexibility? Endurance?

Which weapon will you master?
Great Wall Stone Tablets
Will you make better food choices?

Cut out filthy habits of smoking or doing drugs?

Increase confidence to follow your true calling in life?

Will you remember to breathe and take care of your internal world, flowing the chi and releasing unwanted stress?

Who are you going to meet this year in love, business or as a role model?

Will you hold yourself accountable throughout the year to make sure you're following through and working towards the completion of the goals you've set?

Will you take some time alone at least once a week to meditate, feel your life and reflect on the choices you've made?

Great Wall Tablets

Will you dare to dream big goals?

Will you demand your absolute best even when you don't feel like it?

Will you get right back up after suffering a set-back or disappointment?

Will you walk the path of mastery this year?

I hope you do.

And I'll be right there beside you.

Key component to feeling massive amounts of...

Even though I didn't have a chance to meet Bruce Lee in person while he was alive, through Bob Wall I feel like I have.

Going through more pictures yesterday from Bob Wall's visit to Canada back in May as well as my time spent with him in July in Los Angeles brought back memories and some important lessons he shared with me.

Bob Wall Sijo Jacques Patenaude Sibok Martin Patenaude Sifu Alain Garofalo

I happened to interview him in early January of this year and should make it available very soon.

Having such close ties to a man who trained and maintained one of the longest friendships with Bruce Lee is pretty cool indeed, considering not even a handful of people teaching Lee's art today can attest to that.

What was also cool was asking him advice on one of my "Louse Time" Blog Posts that I usually do on Fridays while he was here in May. As you might already know, "Louse Time" originated from the hit movie Enter the Dragon which starred Bob Wall (Ohara) opposite Bruce Lee.

The whole idea of Louse Time is to listen and forget what you think you know.

Always resorting back to a beginner's mind has served me well in my training and I hope you do the same.

To remain "Teachable" at every stage of your training and in life in general is a key component to feeling massive amounts of joy, motivation, and creativity.

Some people find this out later in life, asking themselves: "Why didn't I listen more, do more, or take more chances?"

Avoid these feelings of regret.

Be teachable.

This adventure my father has put us on is an exciting one filled with opportunities to meet great people, to better ourselves, and show other people the values of practicing martial arts.

You are part of a winning team. Real people who lives and breathes martial arts everyday.

We look forward to continuing to serve you in the new year that's just around the corner and may you accomplish all of your hopes and dreams in 2010.

Quit now or Quit later?

Did you ever wonder why some people are successful in everything they undertake while others never seem to get anywhere really?

I've seen it all too many times in martial arts and the same is true in any other field.

Desire meets Action.

Before long, you realize some work has to be done before you can call yourself a martial artist.

Stickability is 95% ability.

What's common is getting discouraged in the early stages of your training when you feel uncoordinated, stiff and out of shape.

That, I can kind of understand, like all things new, a certain adaptation time is required so you can finally start moving naturally.

Mentally at this stage, the strong are separated from the weak.

What puzzles me are the ones that actually get the results they were looking for, like losing weight, increasing flexibility and strength, building confidence and character, developing skill and proficiency and then slowly see them slide into complacency.

Which is better quitting in the beginning or quitting in the end?

Neither one of them.

Turn your stickability to "high" so you can experience the joys of finishing what you start while realizing the path of self-mastery has no end to it, just a series of steps, moving you upward in your evolution.

I feel so sad for them

Last night we went out for dinner at the Lac Lemay Casino in Gatineau to celebrate my spouse's birthday.

We had a great time and the food was excellent except for one thing.

I usually go to the Casino about once a year, not to gamble but to enjoy a show or fine dining.

And this "thing" I already know, I'm reminded of it every time I go there.

I witness first hand the tragedy of not having goals, projects, a business, and ultimately the failure of not finding what you were born to do.

I see a room full of elderly people wasting away at the slot machines. Rows upon rows of white heads staring at a screen.

I feel so sad for them.

Is that life?

Is life so boring and uneventful that you have to settle for that?

I'm not condoning a night out of fun and gambling at the casino. It's just that every time I go I see the same thing.

If the same time and energy was invested in physical training, dream building, creating values for other people, and focusing on your true calling in life at ALL stages of life, wouldn't that bring you more joy, satisfaction and a sense of contribution?

Where do you invest most of YOUR time and attention?

"You become what you think about most of the time".

The first time my dad told me this powerful little sentence I immediately put it into practice.

Build a life you can be proud of, constantly strive to improve yourself and be committed to that philosophy throughout your life.

Only then will you win the real jackpot.

Neigong Training at the Temple of Heaven

It was quite something to walk around this beautiful place.

Not just from an architectural stand point but from the landscape as well. Some of the trees here are 800 years old.
Temple of Heaven Neigong Training
It is said that this temple was built as the meeting point between heaven and earth.

One thing for sure, there's a feeling of calmness and serenity here.

I like the symbolism behind each building and what it represents as well as why and how they were built. Every building serves a purpose adding to the overall beauty of the park.

Everything is calculated.

The imperial north-south axis that runs from the Temple of Heaven to the Forbidden City to the main Olympic site is quite impressive.

The way the number 9 or multiples of it were used to build the Altar of Heaven. The steps, the balustrades, the railings and the altar floor all comprise the multiple of 9, the numerical epitome of Yang, the positive force.

Standing on the center tablet of the Altar of Heaven was once considered the most sacred spot in the Chinese Empire. A person standing in the center of the altar who speaks softly will hear the echo of his own voice.

Altar of Heaven Center Tablet

"Standing on the Center Tablet"

Others on the pl
atform will not hear it because the sound echoes off the surrounding balustrade and returns directly to the center of the circle.

Temple of Heaven MapAnother interesting point, if one stands on the first flagstone at the bottom of the staircase which leads up to the southern entrance door of the Hall of the Imperial Heavenly Vault and claps or shouts loudly, a single echo is produced; standing on the second flagstone, a double echo is produced; and on the third flagstone, a triple echo can be heard.

Also, in the same courtyard, if two people stand at the east and west extremes of the circular "Echo W
all" and speak softly, the sound will be propelled around to the person on the opposite side.

Not bad considering this was built starting in the 1400s.

Another area where the Chinese were and are ahead of their time is with internal energy development.

While in the park we managed to take some time, secluded in the forest, to practice our Neigong (internal work) training.
Aerial view of Altar of Heaven

As you can see from this picture there are many spots where one can take time to harness and flow the chi energy in the body and to do it in this place was a privilege and an honor.

It's Louse Time! Very Easy to Be Lazy

If you're new to my list of focused, motivated, self-starters, Welcome.

(if you're not new jump right away to today's lesson below)

Every day I communicate to you the best ways to train and the kind of mindset it takes to get results either in your physical fitness or martial art training.

Friday is always what I call: "Louse Time". Modeled after Bruce Lee's strategy in Enter the Dragon. You know that part where he's having tea with the government agent but he's disturbed by one of his students and Bruce Lee tells the agent: It's Louse Time!

The agent replies with his British accent: "yes of course". Since I'm 6 years old that scene has always stuck with me and I'll be using that same strategy with YOU every week.

Friday is where I share with you Life Lessons and Direction given to me by my dad (and Sifu) every Friday.

Today's lesson is: Very Easy to Get Lazy

Especially when you've finally gotten what you were running after.

Have you had this happen to you?

It could of happened to me if I didn't have my weekly lessons with my dad.

Which is a good thing if you're also reading this blog post, it means you'll be reminded too.

Everyone is different but usually:

Some get lazy physically after they get married or when they have kids.

In martial arts it might be when you get a certain high rank.

Others get lazy AFTER they've finally gotten themselves in shape and lost the excess pounds they had to drop.

Some get lazy after achieving a certain level of success.

Whatever the reason might be, the reality is: IT HAPPENS.

It's important to realize this sooner rather than later.

Complacency always finds a way in.

Will you be ready?

Do not be a shadow of what you could of been or what you were.

Hold yourself to the highest standards possible in the areas of health and fitness. Stay excited about learning and acquiring new skills with child like enthusiasm. Be teachable and motivated to know there is still so much to learn.

After each success, stop to celebrate, then get back to work immediately. Realize that success isn't a one time thing. Each day should be evaluated as being a success or a missed opportunity.

Everything you have in your life, that which you are most happy or grateful about needs to be tended to and reminded that none of them are permanent unless you devote some time and energy to preserving them.

Karambit Training

Last Saturday we held a Karambit Seminar in Montreal at our St-Denis Location.

Karambit Training Sibok Martin Patenaude

Students were introduced to this ancient weapon used in Indonesia and in parts of the Phillipines.

KARAMBIT meaning "Tiger Claw" is a very simple yet lethal weapon.

The versatility in angles and grip positions is as simple as spinning the weapon through the ring in the handle which makes the Karambit one of my favorite close quarter weapons.

The principles and techniques are so easy to learn and doesn't require any special skill or years of training to be proficient with it.

Karambit Training Sibok Martin Patenaude

As soon as I got introduced to this weapon in L.A last summer I was immediately hooked.

It compliments so well what we already do in our hand to hand, trapping and grappling techniques.

In case you missed it there's another Karambit seminar being held in Ottawa, 335 Catherine St. tonight at 8:30 pm.

You can register for it here.

Did you exercise today?

Last week I posted pictures from what I thought was my best day out in China.

On that same day, further out in Badachu Park, I came across this huge bell and thought:

"Why not go up and hit it, see what kind of vibration it creates?"

The sound was pretty cool but not what followed.

I didn't notice the sign at the bottom, top and sides of the bell that (what I found out later) said in chinese, one hit 5 yuan.

As I was walking away, a lady started running after me: "you pay, you pay, you hit bell"

"I thought I could hit the bell?" I said.

"See, look the sign here" she replies in her broken english.

"You hit 5 times"...

"I was happy?" I blurt back.

"You pay NOW"

LOL

I ended up paying for it.

It reminded me of the expression "There is no such thing as a free lunch"

Same thing goes for your training.

"Ain't nobody comin' for ya"

In the end you're the one who will have to do the reps, the sets, the sacrifice, the sweating and fighting procrastination. No one will do it for you.

Which is why it's so rewarding in the end.

You create your reality.

You make it possible.

You're 100% responsible for it.

Did you exercise today?

Nutrition Tips

What does YOUR diet consist of?

While in Beijing, I was brought to a famous street, where food stands are lined up side by side, each offering their unique specialty.

This store was serving up something a little different.

Live Scorpions.

Skewered and still moving, people were lined up to sample these little critters.

I guess compared to us here in the west, this particular food doesn't look good but IS good for you. While most of OUR food looks good but isn't good for you.

This case is a little extreme but just look at the average North American's breakfast.

It's either:

1) Skipped all together
2) Cereal
3) Sugar laced coffee and a donut
4) Or even better a cream cheese bagel and a muffin.

Not to mention the junk that gets eaten during lunch time.

Yumbo! Makes for a very productive day.

Definitely not what our ancestors used to eat in the morning.

Whatever happened to water, fruits, nuts and protein first thing in the morning?

Large corporations are hard at work trying to tell you what to eat.

Use common sense. Eat what can be picked from a tree, dug up from the ground, hunted or caught in the sea.

Next time you visit the grocery store, focus on buying the food located on the outer walls of the store while avoiding most of the poisons found in the middle of it.

That coupled with an effective, short, dynamic fitness program as taught in our Station Training Kits and you'll be all set.

See what I mean here.

Relic of the Buddha

In past posts I wrote about my best training day atop a rock in the Badachu Park while traveling in China.
Badachu Park Relic of the Buddha
These pictures are from that day also.

You'll notice the hill behind the temple in this first picture.

The perfect spot to do my Neigong Training.

The temple you see there houses a relic of the Buddha.

Badachu Park Relic of the Buddha

His TOOTH to be exact.

The whole process to get to see the tooth was a challenge.

Apart from waiting 4 hours in line and finding an appropriate gift to offer as sign of respect, fighting for position in what felt like being in a "mosh" pit to get in the front gate, once we got to the main doorway everything got really... quiet.

Definitely something worth doing if you're in China in the future.

I mean seeing the tooth was ok, but being there and thinking of the thousands of people (if not millions) who stepped into this place, revered the tooth, who held it, worshiped it, protected it over thousands of years.

As we stood at the very top level of the temple of light (the one you see in the first picture), all crunched up in this small room reciting words of respect in chinese, one word flashed in my mind and struck me:

BELIEF

Temple of Light Badachu Park Relic of the Buddha

"Whatever the mind of man can conceive and bring himself to believe, he can achieve"

All these wonderful temples and places I've visited were all built by men and women who believed.

When building and protecting YOUR own temple (i.e: your life and everything it entails), make it strong, beautiful, and rewarding.

Badachu Park Relic of the Buddha

Badachu Park Relic of the Buddha

Believe in Yourself.

Build a strong body and mind.

Set the example for others around you.

Use the fighting spirit of the martial arts to fuel any project or goal to its completion.

I'll be back with more tomorrow,

Have some Tea?

I snapped this picture of the master's tea set while in China.

The tea ceremony was a daily ritual.

Actually 3 times a day to be exact.

Most of you know the benefits of drinking green tea and its antioxidant and detoxifying effects.

But did you know it's also a judge of character?

At least that's how I felt.

If I refused another cup I felt like it was a sign of disrespect. If I didn't drink from the cup the master had just given me I felt it was reflective of my unwillingness to learn.

No, would mean: not so motivated.

So I drank roughly 25 of them.

The tea like the neigong training was a gift.

Was I ready to receive it?

Even if I didn't like tea (which I do) you can bet I would of drank it anyway.

I know it's good for me.

Just like the Neigong Training.

At first some might think it's too hard or it's too this or it's too that.

Not only is it good for your Chi Circulation but it'll strengthen your ligaments and loosen your joints as well.

It's also very beneficial to your organs, namely your heart, liver and kidneys.

I like knowing I'm doing something different than everybody else.

Taking my health in my own hands and making it MY responsibility is a great feeling.

Which is why I encourage you to do the same.

Noboby takes your health at heart like you do.

Do you?

For me the dumbest thing in the world is eating the wrong foods, drinking too much, smoking and not exercising then expecting a broken health care system to come in and fix you when you created the problem in the first place.

Staying healthy isn't rocket science. Smart choices in terms of what you shove down your throat, a bit of will power and an active lifestyle is a great way to start.

If the above is taken care of, which most of you it should be if you're on my list, start developing yourself from the inside - out with regular Neigong practice.

Master Yourself,

Sibok M

P.S. If you already own Neigong Foundation Work, smart move. Now start working from the outside - in with Station Training.

Exercise Induced Nausea

Here's another unusual sign I saw in China I had never seen before.

And as Garth would say from the 1992 Smash Hit "Wayne's World":

"If you're going to spew, spew into this"

Believe it or not, every month or so, someone trying out a class in one of our schools needs to regurgitate or needs to sit down because they feel a bit of nausea.

Actually it's quite normal.

The common causes of exercise induced nausea are:
  • Working out on an empty stomach

  • Over-training
  • Dehydration

  • Non-active lifestyle
It's very important when starting your martial art training that you go to your own pace.
Even if you know you can push yourself harder, gradually work yourself up to that level by scaling back a bit on the level of intensity and exertion you put into each exercise.

If you do, let it be a big wake up call to finally get yourself in the best shape possible, make the right food choices and live a healthier lifestyle.

Here's what we do.

Knife Defense Tactics

I thought this sign was funny.

Before entering a pretty famous street in Beijing this sign and others like it were posted on an A-Frame.

Even if someone was carrying a weapon why would they reveal it?

And if they did, there was no place to drop the knives and guns off like in the wild west.

According to Police Reports most knife attack survivors, when asked to fill their report, never saw their assailant's weapon nor did they realize they were being stabbed or cut.

Most go to say they thought they were being punched.

Therefore most martial arts schools teach knife defenses all wrong.

Think about it, if you were the attacker bent on killing someone or seriously injuring them, wouldn't you also be very deceptive and sneaky to wait for the perfect opportunity to unleash your attack and be successful with it?

Knowing this makes preparing for a knife attack way more challenging. It's even more difficult to comprehend what goes on inside an attacker's mind and how someone could follow through with something so gruesome.

You only come to realize that if you want to survive a knife attack you have to be as ruthless and unforgiving as they are.

Your life will depend on it.

Your best reaction should always be, avoid any potentially dangerous situations at all costs, think ahead, remove yourself and walk away from any kind of dispute, and weary of anyone stepping into your safety zone.

The problem is you never know what can happen. Who knows what the future holds?

I'm sure the lucky ones who survived a knife attack wished they knew more about dealing with a knife and the ones who lost their life, well I ask myself "What if?"

Would it of made any difference? What if everyone who went to college, men and women, had a mandatory knife defense course to complete?

More and more people are carrying knives, hearing about knife attacks are very common in the newspaper, finding the reports and statistics for your city would shock you.

No approach is fool proof. There is no magic formula but spending some time educating yourself on the subject of knife defense is a very good idea.

There are many courses and DVDs out there on the subject of knife defense.

Here's the first step to what we do and if you like our approach there will be more volumes being released shortly.

It's Louse Time! Protect the Garden

If you're new to my list of focused, motivated, self- starters, Welcome.

The purpose of Louse Time is to challenge a belief you might have or make you look at your training or life in general from a different perspective.

Today's lesson is: Protect the Garden

My dad shared something profound with me this morning.

It's an important life lesson he's talked to me about before, just in a different way.

It has to do with Protecting your Garden.

Yes I know this is a good time of year to prepare the soil of your garden before winter and to make sure it's ready for the spring but that's not what I'm talking about.

My dad is talking about the garden that is growing between your EARS.

The garden you should be constantly tending to, cleaning up dead or diseased foliage (old ideas), removing debris (clinging to the past), leaves (things left undone), stakes and row markers (finding new goals), dead roots (trusting your own instincts), and any fruits and vegetables that may be spoiled (If you don't like the results you've been getting, change your approach).

Most of you have no problem with protecting your property, your home or your car.

But something way more valuable is often forgotten.

Never forget to protect...

Your Mind.

Control what goes in. Enhance what comes out. Avoid Stinkin' Thinkin'. Read inspiring books, Turn off the TV and the radio, screen who you talk to and hang around with - ultimately blocking out all bad seeds, and listen to your own intuition when making decisions. In most cases it's always the right one.

The quality of your thinking is in direct proportion to how much happiness, love, and success you'll get to attract and experience.

Master Yourself,

Sibok M

P.S. What do you do with all that waste?

The same way throwing disease or parasite infected waste into the compost could potentially spread the disease to your garden next year (old habits die hard), you'll want to either throw it away or burn it (replace the old habits with new ones). Start by making better health choices when it comes to food and drink and follow a proven system to get you fit, FAST.

Get started here.

Secret to Progression

Seeing these old, used up stairs at the Great Wall reminded me of the secret of progression.

Time and Repetition.

Both lead to results depending on your point of view.

Some activities and habits slowly destroy your body while others inject it with youth and vitality.

Which ones are YOU engaging in?

People often write in to ask how fast will they get results in their fitness level if they follow the instructions contained in our Station Training System, or "When will I be able to do a full split between two chairs the way Sijo, the Founder, is performing it on your Flexibility Series?". Some also ask: "When will I feel the chi coursing through my body as explained in your Neigong Program?".

Same kind of questions I guess I asked myself when I took that picture: "How much time did it take to dent the slate on the Great Wall steps to erode them that way?

Time and Repetition.

Talking about how fit you will become or the levels of strength you will attain won't get you anywhere. Waiting to find the best time to finally start taking care of your health will lead to you never starting in the first place. Dreaming without doing is a waste of time.

Every day that goes by where you fail to take action on your goals is an empty day. An opportunity lost to find fulfillment and a deep feeling of accomplishment in your life.

Act now.

The view was awesome, the feeling was amazing

Mixing the energy bubble a top a great rock on the Western Hills (Badachu)

It took us about an hour to hike up to this area and the view on Beijing and the surrounding hills and temples was breathtaking.

Out of all the places I visited during my trip, training in this area and the memory of it, as well as the feeling I experienced while doing my training here, will surely be one of the most memorable moments of my trip.

In Fang Shen Do we encourage our students to anchor important moments you go through either in your training or in life in general.

An anchor helps recall past experiences you can use in the present moment to snap yourself in a specific state at some other point in your life. You can relive a feeling you had in 3, 6, 12, 24 mths from now just by calling upon that anchor.

Think about a moment in your life where you felt the happiest, the most confident, or the strongest. With the right anchors in place you can get to feel that way every day.

We all live with anchors or associations, some of those can be positive while others can be negative.

I count on the positive anchors I've set to keep myself motivated, happy, thankful, and energized every day. These over power any negative ones that might creep up.

Music can be a source of empowerment or it can put you in a sad, depressed state so be weary of what you listen to.

Starting something new might bring some anxious feelings, butterflies in the stomach, these can remind you of past failures and stop you from following through or they can fill you with excitement knowing you're going to learn something new.

Sitting on the couch to watch TV might help you relax, unwind and disconnect or it can serve to remind you that lying down catatonic doesn't help you in any way to grow and reach the goals you've set for yourself.

These are just basic examples. Think of all the associations your mind has made since you were born.

Which associations do you have about exercise?

Waking up early.

Reading.

Drugs.

Relationships.

Smoking.

Etc. Etc...

The good news is associations and habits can be changed or replaced in 21 days or less.

Are you ready to make exercising a positive starting point to make other key changes in other areas of your life?

Here's how I'd like you to get started.

Mind like a Monkey

Calming the body is pretty easy.

There are many ways to do so via physical exercise, foot and body massage, a hot bath, sauna, etc...

Where it becomes difficult is with our mind.

The mind will never stop.

It will never be satisfied or at ease.

New thoughts will enter your mind as quickly as one is dismissed.

The first source of your thoughts come from your five senses.

Everything you've learned since you were born has entered through your five senses.

Naturally, your five senses often distract you from enjoying your relax time or your training time with a hefty supply of feedback such as:

Too hot. Too cold. I'm itchy. You're hungry. Need to move. I'm tired. My feet hurt. etc...

How do you shut it off?

While in China, this particular condition plagued me at first.

Out of my usual routine of doing several hundred reps to now stepping it up in the thousands and performing them at 1 and 5 am and at different times in the day, my mind literally was like a monkey.

Wandering. Questioning. Complaining.

Until I reminded myself what the master's wife had told me earlier.

There is no You. There is no Space. There is no Place. None of them exist. Only focus on the Chi. Bring your full attention, your spirit and your heart to that place and time will just fly by.

Time really did fly by. I've returned more motivated than ever to spread the elements of Neigong.

Before reaching the point of creating and mixing an energy bubble you need to get started on the foundation work of Neigong contained in the first installment in the series.

Here's the first step to reaching that level.

Master Yourself,

Sibok M

P.S. There is a level of calmness you've never experienced before after training in Neigong. I want you to feel what I feel. Get started today.

Back Home

Last week I got back from China.

And slowly re-adjusting to our time zone.

I can't wait to share and upload some of the pictures and videos from my trip.

I wish more people could of seen and felt the things I experienced while traveling in the orient.

Through e-mails and blog posts you'll be able to get an idea of what I went through.

Check back often as I sift through several hundred pictures and videos and post them here on the website.

Intense Neigong Training Schedule

Alot of people are asking me: "So how did it go?"

Here'a quick snapshot at the end of one of our workouts.

It's about 1:00 am.

Usually, Neigong training isn't as intensive as this.

But for our stay here and at the master's request we have to follow this traditional training schedule.

5 am to 7 am.

11 am to 1 pm.

5 pm to 7 pm.

11 pm to 1 am.

And so on, every day for 10 straight days.

That doesn't leave too much time to write blogs, e-mails, visit temples, talk to family and sleep!

But still I managed to do all of the above, barely.

If I could get 4 hours of sleep a night I was lucky.

This schedule follows the pattern of the sun and the moon and is focused on absorbing energy from both sources (Yin and Yang)

Disciples of the art are encouraged to seclude themselves once a year in this fashion for 2 to 4 weeks.

This is not a pre-requisite to getting results and understandably not for everyone.

Still it was a thrill and a challenge to go through it all.

Even while back here in Canada I still wake up at these times ready to train.

I'll be posting some more interesting training philosophies in the next few days.

Stay tuned,

Sibok M

Mind Your Step

I saw this sign at the Forbidden City.

Notice the choice of words.

Instead of the invasive: "WATCH YOUR STEP!"

A simple word change brings about a whole other meaning.

One of awareness and mindfulness.

The words you use have a direct effect on everything you do, your thoughts and the results you get.

Words you use are either empowering or disempowering you.

There are many word and phrase changes you can start switching to. The most obvious ones are those you use when it comes to your training, your relationships, your job, etc...

When you wake up in the morning before going to work, what do you automatically think about or say to yourself?

Or before heading out to class for your weekly training?

You can be sure, using the right words while doing something extreme like firewalking is the difference in you reaching the other side safely.

Some words can bring about fear, doubt, and uncertainty while others foster confidence, determination, and follow through.

This weekend is our last firewalking event of the year. The whole experience revolves around making changes to self limiting beliefs, unlocking your potential, and deeply imprinting a pattern of success you can then transfer to any area of your life.

Meeting with the Master

Finally I get to meet a 15 th Generation student of the famous monk Tie-Song Tzi.

Seeing Raf interact with his master reminds me of how I, and other senior Sifus in Fang Shen Do interact with my dad.

There's a deep sense of friendship, lots of laughter and respect.

There is cause for celebration as East and West unite and share in spreading this internal art to the world.

I'm realizing as I'm writing this that meeting Raf was a blessing and this new journey in the internal world will be a fruitful one.

As I've said in the past it's important for Fang Shen Do to always be on the cutting edge of martial arts. Adding this new facet to our training will greatly benefit our students all around the world.

Although Neigong is very old and has been around for quite some time, most martial arts are strictly externally focused and the ones who are dubbing themselves "internal" are missing important components to increasing their Chi circulation that only neigong training can help stimulate.

Once the building blocks are in place (Through diligent Neigong training), internal art practitioners can take their Tai Chi or Bagua to a whole other level.

If you are training an internal art I strongly recommend you look into Neigong Training. It can save you years of frustration trying to get the results you really want.

Like attracts Like

Like attracts Like. You've probably heard this saying before.

This picture taken at the Forbidden City off of a huge copper caldron used to store water in case of a fire reminded me of what my father always told me about "What you are looking for is looking for you".

Keeping your goals and desires at the forefront of your mind and reviewing them daily, insures you attract into your life the person or people, the circumstances, or the feeling you are looking for.

One way to be clear about what you want is to clearly write down what you want.

As simplistic as it might sound, the scary part is most people don't have written down goals?

Some have a general idea in their head. And others are oblivious, just going through the daily grind, reacting to life instead of designing it.

I want you to get what you want. I really mean that.

If you're on this list you're at the right place.

DECIDE today what you really want in all areas of your life then attack it with passion and a burning desire.

Master Yourself,

Sibok M

P.S. Interestingly before leaving for China, I packed my journal to record thoughts and feelings after each neigong training to review and track my progression. While flipping through it I came upon an old entry, 3 years to the day, where I clearly stated my intention of traveling to China to work with a neigong master. My book is filled with examples like these. Through reading my blogs and e-mails, one might think of my situation and unique experiences as being lucky. I'm simply following my plan. Write yours today!

Walking in the footsteps of an Emperor

I had heard about this place but never expected it to be so big and breathtaking.

Tiananmen Square & the Forbidden City, once home to the Emperor and his extended family, now a place for everyone to congregate and appreciate Chinese culture and history.

Walking in this place feels kinda like when you first start practicing martial arts: You're a bit Overwhelmed.

Overwhelmed with what you have to learn and accepting of the fact that you need to give your body time to adapt.

Just like this place, it wasn't built in a day. The same is true with your development.

To avoid being overwhelmed, you must take one step at a time.

That's why in our approach we put major focus on the conditioning part first.

Your body, like tilling the soil of a garden, ready for harvesting must be just right. Getting your body fit first is a wise way of liking the results you get out of your martial art training.

Once that is in place, the foundation you've created will be there for you to fall back on as you continue walking the path of mastery.

Sibok M
