It's Louse Time! Repetition vs Modeling

If you're new to my list of focused, motivated, self-starters, Welcome.

(if you're not new jump right away to today's lesson below)

Every day I communicate to you the best ways to train and the kind of mindset it takes to get results either in your physical fitness or martial art training.

Friday is always what I call: "Louse Time". Modeled after Bruce Lee's strategy in Enter the Dragon. You know that part where he's having tea with the government agent but he's disturbed by one of his students and Bruce Lee tells the agent: It's Louse Time!

The agent replies with his British accent: "yes of course". Since I'm 6 years old that scene has always stuck with me and I'll be using that same strategy with YOU every week.

Friday is where I share with you Life Lessons and Direction given to me by my dad (and Sifu) every Friday.

Today's lesson is: Repetition vs Modeling

These 2 methods will certainly get you to where you want to go.

You may need to do both.

But you don't have to.

One method leads you down a solemn road of trial and error, set-backs, frustration, pain, and hard work.

The other method, the superior method gets you the same results in half the time. All you have to do is follow the plan and whatever you're looking for is within your grasp.

Results come quickly and makes you wonder why you didn't follow this method in the first place.

You've guessed it.

Modeling is the preferred method for accelerated learning. Certainly, the old saying of:

"Repetition is the mother of skill" holds some merit but modeling someone who already has what you want and in turn mimicking exactly what they did to get it is a guaranteed winner.

This weekend you'll have the opportunity to do just that.

All of our school owners, Sifus and students are converging in Casselman this Saturday morning at 10:30 am for a day of training and advanced learning.

This event is open to all FSD Students and non students alike.

Why should you attend?

We try to organize these kinds of events as many times as possible throughout the year but still, it's not enough.

Very seldomly will you have all of FSD's Top instructors, not to mention our Founder Sijo Jacques Patenaude all present in the same venue to help you advance your skills in Weapons, Grappling, Energy Work, Trapping Hands, Conditioning and Athleticism, Sanshou Sparring Drills and the list goes on.

Priced at 30$, it's a no-brainer.

It's Louse Time! Very Easy to Be Lazy

If you're new to my list of focused, motivated, self-starters, Welcome.

(if you're not new jump right away to today's lesson below)

Every day I communicate to you the best ways to train and the kind of mindset it takes to get results either in your physical fitness or martial art training.

Friday is where I share with you Life Lessons and Direction given to me by my dad (and Sifu) every Friday.

Today's lesson is: Very Easy to Get Lazy

Especially when you've finally gotten what you were running after.

Have you had this happen to you?

It could of happened to me if I didn't have my weekly lessons with my dad.

Which is a good thing if you're also reading this blog post, it means you'll be reminded too.

Everyone is different but usually:

Some get lazy physically after they get married or when they have kids.

In martial arts it might be when you get a certain high rank.

Others get lazy AFTER they've finally gotten themselves in shape and lost the excess pounds they had to drop.

Some get lazy after achieving a certain level of success.

Whatever the reason might be, the reality is: IT HAPPENS.

It's important to realize this sooner rather than later.

Complacency always finds a way in.

Will you be ready?

Do not be a shadow of what you could of been or what you were.

Hold yourself to the highest standards possible in the areas of health and fitness. Stay excited about learning and acquiring new skills with child like enthusiasm. Be teachable and motivated to know there is still so much to learn.

After each success, stop to celebrate, then get back to work immediately. Realize that success isn't a one time thing. Each day should be evaluated as being a success or a missed opportunity.

Everything you have in your life, that which you are most happy or grateful about needs to be tended to and reminded that none of them are permanent unless you devote some time and energy to preserving them.

It's Louse Time! Protect the Garden

If you're new to my list of focused, motivated, self- starters, Welcome.

Since I'm 6 years old that scene has always stuck with me and I'll be using that same strategy with YOU every week.

Friday is where I share with you Life Lessons and Direction given to me by my dad (and Sifu) every Friday.

The purpose of Louse Time is to challenge a belief you might have or make you look at your training or life in general from a different perspective.

Today's lesson is: Protect the Garden

My dad shared something profound with me this morning.

It's an important life lesson he's talked to me about before, just in a different way.

It has to do with Protecting your Garden.

Yes I know this is a good time of year to prepare the soil of your garden before winter and to make sure it's ready for the spring but that's not what I'm talking about.

My dad is talking about the garden that is growing between your EARS.

The garden you should be constantly tending to, cleaning up dead or diseased foliage (old ideas), removing debris (clinging to the past), leaves (things left undone), stakes and row markers (finding new goals), dead roots (trusting your own instincts), and any fruits and vegetables that may be spoiled (If you don't like the results you've been getting, change your approach).

Most of you have no problem with protecting your property, your home or your car.

But something way more valuable is often forgotten.

Never forget to protect...

Your Mind.

Control what goes in. Enhance what comes out. Avoid Stinkin' Thinkin'. Read inspiring books, Turn off the TV and the radio, screen who you talk to and hang around with - ultimately blocking out all bad seeds, and listen to your own intuition when making decisions. In most cases it's always the right one.

The quality of your thinking is in direct proportion to how much happiness, love, and success you'll get to attract and experience.

Master Yourself,

Sibok M

P.S. What do you do with all that waste?

The same way throwing disease or parasite infected waste into the compost could potentially spread the disease to your garden next year (old habits die hard), you'll want to either throw it away or burn it (replace the old habits with new ones). Start by making better health choices when it comes to food and drink and follow a proven system to get you fit, FAST.

Get started here.

It's Louse Time! The Calm after the Storm

Since I'm 6 years old that scene has always stuck with me and I'll be using that same strategy with YOU every week.

Friday is where I share with you Life Lessons and Direction given to me by my dad (and Sifu) every Friday.

Today's lesson is: The Calm after the Storm

I have a very fond memory of being 6 years old and cooling down and meditating after a kung-fu class.

My father explaining to us to: "Never, ever forget this feeling you have after your training. You'll need to recall on it at different points in your training life if you're ever going to accomplish any worth while goal in the martial arts."

No matter how much you don't feel like training on a certain day or you're just distracted or busy with other things in your life, think of how good you feel after your workout and how you want to re-live that sense of accomplishment, positive energy, and emotional release over and over again.

Sometimes getting yourself to train or making it through a tough workout might feel like being caught in a storm.

No matter which obstacles you have to go through, whether created by you by ways of negative self-talk and making excuses to skip a workout or the actual difficulty of the routine you're following, there is calmness, joy, bliss, and a deep connection with yourself which occurs after each workout.

That's why I never miss workouts and you shouldn't either, what you lose by not attending and completing them cost you...

YOU.

A chance to reflect on you. There is no B-S'ing yourself. You KNOW if you gave it all you had or slacked off. You feel if you've been consistent in your training by how you feel after them: strong and rejuvenated or weak and struggling.

A chance to listen to your heartbeat and feel the pulse of your life.

Do not miss workouts or martial art class it keeps you young, vibrant, and on the path of mastery.

It's Louse time! Single Most Important Quality

If you're new to my list of focused, motivated, self-starters, Welcome.

Since I'm 6 years old that scene has always stuck with me and I'll be using that same strategy with YOU every week.

Friday is where I share with you Life Lessons and Direction given to me by my dad (and Sifu) every Friday.

Today's lesson revolves around the single most important quality you need to develop.

Without it you can't accomplish anything worthwhile.

Once you've acquired it, it will improve every area of your life.

Through martial art practice this quality is harvested early on in your training.

Armed with this quality there's nothing you can't accomplish or excel in.

I'm talking about Self-Confidence.

Think about it.

If you had total confidence in yourself, what would you NOT do?

From a physical standpoint, if you had confidence in your capabilities and felt like you mastered your body through martial art training and you knew you were strong, coordinated, flexible and agile, you wouldn't shy away from any physical activity or sport.

If you had total confidence knowing you could protect yourself, would you travel more and see the world?

What if you had complete emotional confidence?

Feeling unafraid of criticism, failure, doing things differently, standing up for what you believe in?

You don't grow unless you step out of your comfort zone.

You know what? Confidence is not permanent.

You constantly need to work on it, chase it relentlessly and not lose it.

Keep challenging yourself. Stay sharp. Get the edge.

Boost your confidence by attending our next Firewalking event held on October 25th. , finally acquire the piece of the puzzle that makes everything happen no matter what field you're in.

It's Louse Time! Because it feels Good!

If you're new to my list of focused, motivated, self- starters, Welcome.

(if you're not new jump right away to today's lesson below)

Every day I communicate to you the best ways to train and the kind of mindset it takes to get results either in your physical fitness or martial art training.

Today's lesson is: Because it feels Good!

Often times people ask me how am I able to stay motivated after having trained for so long. Some people don't even stick with their fitness program more than 30 days let alone almost 30 years.

I'm here to tell you: "What I have done, you can do".

If you simply put in practice a few important words of advice as taught to me by my dad a long time ago, you'll never stray away from training or martial arts in general.

One thing you must implement immediately is what you do and think AFTER your workouts.

It's so simple most people miss it completely.

The worst part is it only takes a few minutes yet for many the first thing on their minds after a workout is:

Water!

or

Shower!

I'm tired!

Eat!

I'm late!

The first thing you should do after a workout is... Listen.

Sit, Kneel or Lie Down and just listen.

The best sound in the world is nestled in your chest...your heart beat.

How precious is a heart beat?

If you're a parent you still remember the feeling of relief the first time you heard your baby's heart beat at the first ultra-sound.

You definitely remember the first time you and your lover were pressed up against each other in bed after intercourse.

And especially after a workout, how precious it is to just listen and feel your pulse.

It screams out at you: "You're Alive!"

How great it is to be alive.

This IS what it is for me. After every workout, it's a reminder to always be happy to be alive, my time here is precious, my life and my health is precious, no matter how hard it was to get myself to train or whatever I'm going through in my life, I have a heart beat, I'll be okay.

It's this kind of association with training I have created, so you see, I have to train.

It doesn't have to be long, take a few minutes to listen after your workout and get fired up to tackle the rest of your day.

A training day like my heart beat, I can't miss one!

It's Louse Time! Hung Up in the Way

But this Friday is different.

Ever since I started "Louse Time" on Fridays I've been getting positive feedback from alot of you and who would of thought I'd be doing a Louse Time session with the co-star of Enter the Dragon, Bob Wall (aka Ohara) one day.

After completing my morning workout with my dad and O'hara, I mean Bob, here are some lessons you might be interested in hearing about.

Bruce always related his martial art training to life. Kinda like what we've been doing for the past 35 years. This is the ultimate goal of martial arts, to use it as a tool to improve yourself in all areas of your life.

The martial arts are filled with knuckle heads who are caught in styles and who's better than who. Many were around then and double that number today.

Bruce's whole philosophy was: "Don't get Hung Up in the Way".

Look at comments on You Tube related Martial arts topics and you'll find a boat load of people arguing that their style is better than others, especially when it comes to Jiu-Jitsu.

Not one of the top guys in Wrestling or Jiu-Jitsu engage in that kind of discussion. They're all ready and open to learn from anybody.

It seems to be a trend among us human beings to compare ourselves.

Who has the best religion.

My god is better than your god.

My house is bigger than your house.

My kids are smarter than your kids.

Bruce had many challenges when it came to his ethnicity, it wasn't easy to be chinese back in the 60's. The chinese also resented him for teaching caucasians kung-fu. Same thing for African Americans, that's why his first student was black, to prove to everyone he wasn't going to follow the norm.

Coming back to his philosophy: "Don't get Hung up in the Way"

There are many ways to interpret and learn a lesson from it as well as apply it to your own life.

In our Neigong Training we focus on un-blocking the meridians of the body but using Bruce Lee's philosophy it also means to un-block certain ways of thinking, to expand your view and seek out better ways of getting in shape, or making money, attracting better quality friends, designing the life of your dreams, and constantly looking at the results you're getting and liking what you get.

Listening to Bob share his views and experiences and hearing him rave about our FSD training, getting actual, factual feedback from a man who's seen them all, managed the best fighters in the world is priceless. I usually dismiss internet blabber from on-line, couch potatoe black belts hiding behind computer screens but when a man like Bob gives us a compliment, I listen.

I always wanted to meet Bruce Lee, now through Bob I feel like I have. Being endorsed by Bob Wall is the beginning of a great relationship and all FSD Students will benefit greatly from his wisdom and experience.

Do like Bruce Lee, refuse to follow, blaze your own trail, and act on what your heart tells you to do.

Master Yourself,

Sifu Martin

P.S. Speaking of blazing a trail, we'll be blazing one this Sunday, one that you'll have to walk accross to get to the other side with new found determination and focus. Join us by springing on over to this link.

It's Louse Time! Know your Roots

If you're new to my list of focused, motivated, self- starters, Welcome.

(if you're not new jump right away to today's lesson below)

Every day I communicate to you the best ways to train and the kind of mindset it takes to get results either in your physical fitness or martial art training.

Since I'm 6 years old that scene has always stuck with me and I'll be using that same strategy with YOU every week.

Friday is where I share with you Life Lessons and Direction given to me by my dad (and Sifu) every Friday.

Today's lesson is: Know Your Roots

This statement can take on different meanings.

And this morning, my father explored a few of them which I'd like to share with you today.

You've all heard the phrase: "Get back to basics".

Mastery of martial art skill can be attained through regular practice of the core principles such as: Speed, Intensity, Power, Flexibility, and Balance.

Whenever something doesn't feel right whether you're doing a take down or any kind of self-defense technique for example, it can always be linked back to something you didn't quite grasp in the basic levels.

To know one's roots also means: "to see through the essence of things".

What is the essence of Martial Arts?

Some might say, Mastery. Others. Liberation. Maybe even to: "Know Thy Self"

What about:

The essence of a relationship.

The essence of physical conditioning.

The essence of family.

The essence of service.

When you break down what you do, to its essence you have clarity. That clarity serves as motivation when IT is challenged.

Knowing your Roots also reminds you of how far you've come. I'm sure you'll agree, making a parallel with martial art training, realizing where you were 6 mths ago and comparing it with where you are now offers great satisfaction and proof that you're progressing and growing.

Bruce Lee was also quoted saying: "Know your Roots and you'll know how to spring out"

I'll keep that one for another time.

Until then,

Master Yourself,

Sifu Martin

It's Louse Time! The future belongs to...?

If you're new to my list of focused, motivated, self- starters, Welcome.

Friday is where I share with you Life Lessons and Direction given to me by my dad (and Sifu) every Friday.

Today's lesson is: Having a Clear Vision

No other element is as critical to your success than having a clear vision for what you want to accomplish. That also includes what you want to look like, be like, with who, living where, doing what?

Once that is in place you can begin your journey.

I've listed some of my top ten vision quotes:

"If you limit your choices only to what seems possible or reasonable, you disconnect yourself from what you truly want, and all that is left is a compromise."~ Robert Fritz

"Big thinking precedes great achievement." ~ Wilferd Peterson

"Dissatisfaction and discouragement are not caused by the absence of things but the absence of vision."~ Anonymous

"No matter how dark things seem to be or actually are, raise your sights and see the possibilities - always see them, for they're always there."~ Norman Vincent Peale

"The future belongs to those who see possibilities before they become obvious." ~ John Scully

"In the long run men hit only what they aim at." ~ Henry David Thoreau

"So many of our dreams seem impossible, then improbable, then inevitable."~Christopher Reeve

"Celebrate what you've accomplished, but raise the bar a little higher each time you succeed." ~ Mia Hamm

"The trouble with not having a goal is that you can spend your life running up and down the field and never scoring." ~ Bill Copeland

"I can teach anybody how to get what they want out of life. The problem is that I can't find anybody who can tell me what they want." ~ Mark Twain

Having vision definitely helped my dad get to where he is today after having celebrated his 30th anniversary. Vision is what's driving the rest of my family to reach for excellence.

And all FSD students decide what their vision is after a few classes using an important tool, it comes free when you purchase our 10 Secrets Book. It will bring more clarity to your training and get you the results you're looking for.

It's Louse Time! Are you Dead or Alive?

If you're new to my list of focused, motivated, self- starters, Welcome.

(if you're not new jump right away to today's lesson below)

Every day I communicate to you the best ways to train and the kind of mindset it takes to get results either in your physical fitness or martial art training.

Today's lesson is: Are you Dead or Alive?

I try to be smooother in my approach in my other e-mails during the week but on Friday I feel like I can cut right to the chase. After all, it is Louse Time.

If you remember my original posts about the meaning of "louse time" it means to deliberately insult somebody's behavior and attitude.

Insult is a strong word, I would say the purpose of Louse Time is to shake your beliefs, get you to take action, break a bad habit, bring awareness to a disempowering behavior, or to force you to take massive action.

So I ask you the question again: Are you Dead or Alive?

As you might of noticed there are many dead people walking around among us.

Here's how I've been taught to categorize if someone is Dead:

-Someone who purposely stays in a dead end job, complacently stuck in a routine rut and doesn't create values.
-Someone who doesn't realize there is more to us than the physical chores of: eating, drinking, going to the bathroom, and sleeping.
-Someone who does not DO what they love, what they were born to do.
-Someone who doesn't read and continually educate himself/herself.
-Someone who allows external authorities to control their life, failing to make their own decisions.
-Someone who accepts mediocrity.
-Someone who fails to ask the question: "There has to be a better way" and misses the importance of making self-improvement a top priority.
-Someone who's too afraid of stepping out of their comfort zone.
-Someone who's given up on their childhood dream.

It all boils down to what kind of existence do you want?

Are you just going through the motions?

Are you continually postponing some of your dreams?

Be careful not to wait too long, waking up one day and saying: "I should of done this" and "I wish I could go back and do things differently".

No one should have to live with regret.

Choose to be Alive, take a chance and follow your heart.

Aim Higher,

Sifu Martin

It's Louse Time! Fear of Success

If you're new to my list of focused, motivated, self- starters, Welcome.
(if you're not new jump right away to today's lesson below)

Every day I communicate to you the best ways to train and the kind of mindset it takes to get results either in your physical fitness or martial art training.

Today's lesson is: Fear of Success

Did you know more people have a fear of success than a fear of failure?

When it comes to fitness, more people will choose to avoid exercising and losing weight, miss out on the opportunity to transform their body while raising their self-esteem and be generally happier just to please other people.

"If I lose weight and look better than ever what will my friends say about me?"

"If I get strong and independent, my spouse might feel threatened and feel like they're losing their control over me"

"I've never been good at anything why should I even start, I'll fail anyway"

"My whole family is fat, I'm doomed, it's my family genes"

"Once I get slim and toned I won't be able to enjoy the food I really like"

And the classic statement that goes: "It won't last forever. You know what THEY say, after 30 your metabolism starts slowing down, so why bother?

Who is They?

When you listen to people talk, pay attention to the words being used.

THEY is just another way to pass the responsibility to someone else.

When it comes to fitness, your health, your family, your business, your life, THEY have absolutely no say in anything.

It's your responsibility.

Maybe that's the biggest fear of success. Responsibility.

Are you ready to assume it?

Every man and woman should be able to run a mile, do a minimum of 50 push-ups and sit-ups, stretch and touch their toes, bike at full speed for 10 km, swim 10 laps and put in a full days work every once in a while without eating anything and not be affected by it.

Once every citizen understands that, we'll have a society that is strong and willing to take full responsibility for our happiness, results, success, motivation and our future.

Practicing Martial Arts makes you quickly understand that. No significant development can be achieved without concentrated effort and discipline.

It's Louse Time! Find Support

If you're new to my list of focused, motivated, self- starters, Welcome.

(if you're not new jump right away to today's lesson below)

Every day I communicate to you the best ways to train and the kind of mindset it takes to get results either in your physical fitness or martial art training.

Today's lesson is: Find Support

More and more research shows the reason some people fail to follow through on their fitness goals can be traced to one of 3 things with one of them being: Not having a group to turn to when motivation runs low.

Take Gym Memberships, everyone I've met throughout the years had the same thing to say about them "I paid but I never went more than a few weeks"

One such gym near my school boasts 14,000 members, when I asked how many were active, training minimum twice a week, the answer was 1200.

Staggering!

I also found it alarming to find out how many couples don't train together.

What better way to strengthen your bond and develop each other physically while having a common goal of fitness for life than to take some time every week to train together.

When going for that candle light dinner tomorrow with your spouse why not bring about the subject of starting a training routine together.

You'll both feel stronger, healthier, sexier and deepen your attraction for one another.

It's so easy to let yourself go. To stop trying to impress your partner. It's so easy to get caught up in the false illusion that everything will be fine and you'll stay together forever without trying to keep everything you do together new and fresh.

Your relationship should be like your training, always growing and improving, passionate and commited, learning from mistakes, being there in the present moment as if it was your last.

We want you to feel what we feel, training together should be rewarding and of utmost importance to you if you value your friend, partner or spouse. Find a partner to train with and when you do, you might want to check this course we designed with that in mind.

How to get started with Partner Conditioning. (How to make the most out of your time together)

Master Yourself,

Sifu Martin

P.S. I know for me personally, Tuesdays with my girl-friend, Wednesday with my brothers and Fridays with my dad are the times that I look forward to the most throughout the week, Find your team, your support system, and the odds show you'll stick with your program way longer.

Get started today

It's Louse Time! It's not MY responsibility?

If you're new to my list of focused, motivated, self- starters, Welcome.

Friday is where I share with you Life Lessons and Direction given to me by my dad (and Sifu) every Friday.

Today's lesson is: It's not MY responsibility?

Huh, yes it is.

We all have Freedom of Choice. Why are so many people making the wrong one when it comes to health?

I think it's the comfort of knowing the good ol' health care system is there for them.

I try to live my life as if there was none.

I believe it's not the government's job or the hospital's to fix someone's bad choices.

The choice of smoking

The choice of doing drugs

The choice of deliberate inactivity

The choice of eating junk food

The choice of not drinking enough water

The choice of consuming too much alcohol

The choice of not getting enough sleep

The choice of.....

You get the picture?

You're not made to be sick, weak and stagnant.

Obviously, some health issues are out of our control but most of them can be avoided with a little common sense.

Choices we make and the responsibility we assume today will pay great dividends in the future.

At least get the fitness and weight loss under control once and for all so you can focus on all the other important things you want to accomplish in your life.

Get started today.

It's Louse Time! Involuntary Amnesia

If you're new to my list of focused, motivated, self-starters, Welcome.

Friday is where I share with you Life Lessons and Direction given to me by my dad (and Sifu) every Friday.

Today's lesson is: Involuntary Amnesia

Be honest, we all suffer from it at times.

Especially a few weeks after the New Year Resolutions are made.

Man oh man were you motivated when you wrote down those goals: "I'm gonna do this and I'm gonna change that. I'm gonna quit smoking. I'm gonna lose weight. I'll spend more time with so and so and I'll show them"

So, how are things coming along?

Made any excuses yet?

Is procrastination kicking in?

Not enough time?

Too busy?

Maybe next year?

We all need to be reminded of what's important to us as well as which commitments we need to stick with this year.

But, are you going to stick with them?

For some the chase is better than the catch, or for others writing the goals is very comforting but we all know writing the goals is only half of the battle. Following through on them is the other.

I want to let you know that if you reach or accomplish just 10% of what you wrote down this year you're in the top percentile of the population who actually do.

The odds are against you.

Do you welcome the challenge?

If you're a martial artist you will, or how about you decide to become one, starting today?

Nothing can stop a determined, focused, passionate, martial artist.

Get-Up and start knocking off those goals one by one.

Master Yourself,

Sifu Martin

It's Louse Time! Same o' - Same o'

Today's lesson is: Same o' - Same o'

Now that the festivities are over, you and I can get back to what brought you on my list in the first place.

Fitness, Strength, Mastery, Martial Arts and Success Strategies.

You might of heard the expression: "The past does not equal the future" and if you plan to do the same things you did last year this year, thinking you'll have different results, think again.

You either look at 2008 with disappointment and a drive to do better this year or you look at 2008 with personal satisfaction knowing that you did what you set out to do earlier that year.

Every new year should feel like you're re-inventing yourself.

Using the previous year and the ones before as maps to make this new year the best one you've ever had.

What do most people do?

Most never make the plan in the first place. No goals are ever written and one year usually matches with the preceding one.

Same o' Same o'.

Make it your nature to constantly search for ways to improve yourself and keep track of your evolution through a goal book and personal journal.

These two tools used in conjunction with each other are very powerful.

The goal book is harsh and represents reality, it's all there in black and white, you wrote them therefore if you have any self-respect for yourself you're gonna follow through on them no matter what.

The personal journal will capture the essence of what you're trying to accomplish. It is a tool to record growth.

Growth is hard to track.

So much so that some of you might get discouraged along the way because you don't feel like you're improving.

When you feel that way you simply re-read past logs from 6 or 12 mths ago in your journal, and it's amazing how much you've grown. Things you were writing and thinking about back then are either accomplished today or about to.

"Was once hard now easy"

Put these 2 tools to good use, they'll come in handy.

Master Yourself,

And let's make this year your most consistent, productive year ever in the areas of health, mastery and personal development.

It's Louse Time! Discipline Equals Something

During the past 2 weeks the weather has been affecting my high speed signal, stopping me from sending my daily tips as I usually do, my apologies, I'm already looking into several solutions.

Today's lesson is: Discipline Equals Something

That word "Discipline" is like music to my ears but I know for some it has a negative connotation.

From the Latin origin, "Disciplina" meaning "Instruction" and also from the root "Discere" meaning "To Learn".

Discipline means to follow a particular "Code of Conduct" or to adhere to a certain "Order".

No matter how tempting an extravagant pleasure may seem, The Code is there to keep you on track for the fitness goals you've set for example.

When talking about Self-Discipline what is YOUR code of conduct?

How do YOU maintain order in your life?

What kind of standards have you set for yourself?

Our body is constantly giving us feedback. Some things we do make us feel great, others we know even before engaging in them we'll feel like crap the day after.

How much Pain can you take before you realize some behaviours are bad for you?

Some people it's alot.

You don't need me to tell you: "You need to stay physically active and strong", "The quality of food you ingest is your source of fuel, no amount of exercise will outbeat a bad diet" and "How you FEEL reflects the quality of your life".

The Code we use for Fitness lies in this unique Fitness Kit. Check it out here

It's Louse Time! Put your Ear Muffs and Blinders On

Today's lesson is: Put your Ear Muffs and Blinders On.

Have you ever been in a situation where you wished you had ear muffs on?

You overhear a conversation that makes you want to puke, saps you of your productive energy, distracts you from your goal or sometimes, it's not what was said, it's what was not said. Just seeing someone's bad choices or odd behavior is enough to reach for the Blinders.

To think of all the things that are being recorded by our minds consciously or subconsiously through TV, at work, in school, on the net, in movies, makes me wonder how it affects our judgment, behavior, and choices in life.

My dad related a story of how one of his co-workers back in the day working for the army always used to wear ear muffs while working. My dad asked him why he was doing that.

He explained, So that he can be totally focused on the job at hand, his thoughts and his breath.

100% involved in his work. No Distractions. No Gossip. No Negative Influence. Just total focus.

Why are we so easily influenced?

What is refreshing about a soft drink? What's relaxing about a cigarette? What's so appealing about All You Can Eat Buffets? How is slacking off on the job productive for the company? Why trade total consciousness and awareness for total disconnect with alcohol and drugs? Why pop pills when there's a minor discomfort? Why shout divorce before trying to resolve differences?
What's up with TGIF? Why go through life not doing what you were born to do?

When you're ready to start a project, a goal, a career change, anything, put the ear muffs and blinders on, let your own intuition guide you and let no one influence your actions or decisions, only you know what's right for you.

Friday is where I share with you Life Lessons and Direction given to me by my dad (and Sifu) every Friday.

Today's lesson is: To Move is better than to Sit

No matter how you feel, tired, sore, in pain, sluggish, depressed, moody, or stressed, it's always better in the end if you decided to move and exercise instead of opting for sitting and not doing anything.

Our morning training today was a challenge. It's getting colder and we both trained extra hard this week, instead of skipping our traditional friday workout, we still did it and let me tell you I'm happy we did.

Most of the pain in my legs I felt all week is gone as well as in my shoulders. The morning sweat had a cleansing effect both on my body and mind, feeling clear and focused, determined and commited to my goals.

During my interview with Bob Wall I asked him what his secret to Longevity and Health was?

As you might already know Bob is in his 70s and showing no signs of stopping any day soon. The similarities between him and my dad are pretty identical in many respects and in the area of fitness it's no different.

Bob's fitness paradigm goes like this:

Resistance Training (self-induced or assisted)
Aerobics (sustained, high intensity workouts)
Flexibility (in all ranges of movement)

Coming from Bob, it confirms why Station Training is so effective. All of those 3 elements are combined into our strength training program. I've seen the same fast results time and again, it's simply the most efficient way of training to acquire greater strength, endurance, flexibility, balance and coordination.

Get your strength training kit now and see what others have to say about it.

It's Louse Time! Will to Succeed

Friday is where I share with you Life Lessons and Direction given to me by my dad (and Sifu) every Friday.

Today's lesson is: The Will to Succeed

Last Sunday during my interview with Bob Wall we got to talk about the 3 major things he could attribute his success to.

Without hesitation he fired out all 3 points. Bang, Bang, Bang, just like a three punch combo.

The very first one was his Fear of Failure. He was just a skinny kid and he had to put in double the effort in all areas compared to the other more gifted kids in school.

It was that determination that landed him a wrestling scholarship when he was 15 years old. His mother was his Tower of Power as he called her and didn't want to let her down. This was the major engine driving his ambition in his early teenage years.

Failure for him, ultimately, was not getting the respect he deserved. We all have the potential to accomplish great things if we just learn to believe in ourselves. One way to get this respect was to start training in Martial Arts. One quickly realizes how developing yourself physically, mentally, emotionally and strengthening your spirit raises your self-esteem, confidence and self-image to new heights.

This in turn gives you the confidence required to even entertain the idea of reaching for your goals that seem so out of reach at first.

Once you have confidence firmly in place you can get started on Bob's second point which I'll cover tomorrow.

Master Yourself,

Sifu Martin

P.S. The very first level of confidence is Physical Confidence. Having trust in your body and what it is capable of. Build superior strength and endurance with our Strength Training System which we've been testing for the past 35 years to ensure maximum results, in the least time, while maintaining a steady progression to meet your fitness goals.

It's Louse Time! Feel your Life

Today's lesson is: Feel your Life

How many times a day do you take the time to bring your attention inside of you instead of focusing and reacting to distractions on the outside?

Martial Arts offers a way to FEEL better by first teaching you the 3 elements of Control.

Control over your breath.

Control over negative thoughts.

Control over your body through stretching, conditioning, muscle control exercises, and sensitivity drills which leads to a better flow of energy.

These 3 areas of development force you to turn inwards and listen.

Most students, when they start cannot take 5 deep breaths in a row, holding each breath 30 seconds, without being out of breath, distracted or dizzy. Controlling the breath is the first thing we get students to practice in our schools and with good reason, it makes the other 2 easier to master.

With practice, you realize the importance of each breath that comes into you, how lucky you are to be here and the way breathing deeply slows everything down, especially your mind to a state of total calmness and free of worry.

The last element ties in with really Feeling your Life. While Stretching or doing any kind of martial art related exercise, if one doesn't FEEL there is no chance for advancement.

By constantly turning your attention inside and being aware of your breath you really capture every moment that would of otherwise been lost, ignored or forgotten.

There are many things in this world competing for your attention, to pull you away from your center, do not let them.

It's Louse Time! Be afraid only of standing still

If you're new to my list of focused, motivated, self- starters, Welcome.
(if you're not new jump right away to today's lesson below)

Every day I communicate to you the best ways to train and the kind of mindset it takes to get results either in your physical fitness or martial art training.

Friday is always what I call: "Louse Time". Modeled after Bruce Lee's strategy in Enter the Dragon.

Since I'm 6 years old that scene has always stuck with me and I'll be using that same strategy with YOU every week.

Friday is where I share with you Life Lessons and Direction given to me by my dad (and Sifu) every Friday.

Today's lesson is: "Be not afraid of growing slowly, be afraid only of standing still" ~ Chinese Proverb.

It boils down to: "Are you making consistent incremental improvements in all areas of your life?"

Some improvements are made without you even realizing it, considering you've been working diligently towards a goal you have.

If I were to film you early on in your martial art training and show it to you six months later, you might not realize you improved but the evidence on film would tell you otherwise.

If you're pushing yourself, you're improving.

The same holds true for pictures. That's why taking "before and after" pictures are crucial to track your progression.
And last, a personal journal. Reviewing past logs in your journal shows where you were, how you were thinking, what was important to you at that moment, personal stats, body measurements, and the mini successes you've had along the way.

Most often than not you won't identify with the old you. Although entertaining and nostalgic you could never go back to being that person again. You are indeed growing slowly even if you don't realize it.

I wish I could film all my students individually and show them where they started from and then 2-3 years later compare past and present footage, most wouldn't believe the transformation.

We tend to have short term memories, take the time to track your progression through video, pictures and a log book. You never know, the map you create might help your son or daughter find their path in life one day, or might just make yours clearer along the way.

It's Louse Time! To be worn out is to be renewed.

Friday is where I share with you Life Lessons and Direction given to me by my dad (and Sifu) every Friday.

Today's lesson is: To be worn out is to be renewed.

A great quote by Lao-tzu.

Sometimes we cling on to things for no reason and releasing ourselves of a bad habit would do us good just like a snake sheds its skin.

Some snakes shed their skin up to 12 times a year.

What if we did the same thing? Not shed our skin like snakes of course, that would be kinda gross!

I mean using the metaphor of shedding skin and applying it in your life in the form of shedding the old self. Taking time to look at yourself constructively and make improvements in areas of your life that you're not happy with.

It can also be, making what you're already good at, better.

It's you refusing to become complacent or not letting anything you do become "routine".

If you let your relationship with your spouse or partner become routine you can kiss it good bye.

Same thing goes for your physical conditioning.

Keep things fresh. That's why our Station Training program has millions of different combinations, one change in card placement brings about a whole new dimension to your training. Give it a shot.

It's Louse Time! Better to prevent than to heal

If you're new to my list of focused, motivated, self-starters, Welcome.
(if you're not (new) jump right away to today's lesson below)

Every day I communicate to you the best ways to train and the kind of mindset it takes to get results either in your physical fitness or martial art training.

Since I'm 6 years old that scene has always stuck with me and I'll be using that same strategy with YOU every week.

Friday is where I share with you Life Lessons and Direction given to me by my dad (and Sifu) every Friday.

Today's lesson is: Better to prevent than to heal.

It's an age old equation: Success is 98% preparation, 2% perspiration.

Alot of people brush off martial arts training by saying: "One day I'll start training" or "I don't really need to learn how to protect myself, I'm not a violent person".

No one signs a contract stating that you'll never be attacked or you'll live until "X" day.

I'd love to say that the world is a non-violent place but unfortunately it is.

From the Manitoba Bus incident to just this past week, 4 house invasions by armed assailants in Ottawa. And that's not counting everything else that doesn't get published in newspapers or covered by the media.

Even Police officers after the Montreal North Riot spanning 15 blocks of mayhem got the officers thinking about continuing and maintaining their training in the areas of personal protection and conditioning. Why do I know this? Many of them joined our program after the event.

What would you do if you were put in those similar situations?

You can't get in a fetal position and wait until someone comes to save you. You'll have to take matters in your own hands.

Knowing how to defend yourself or your family is a skill you never wish to use or experience but the knowledge is there if you're ever threatened and that preparation will give you great confidence if the situation ever arises.

Never get caught un-prepared, Do not push to tomorrow what can be started today. Here's a link to our school page if you haven't gotten started yet.

It's Louse Time! Too much, too soon

Since I'm 6 years old that scene has always stuck with me and I'll be using that same strategy with YOU every week.

Friday is where I share with you Life Lessons and Direction given to me by my dad (and Sifu) every Friday.

Today's lesson is: Too much, too soon.

That phrase can be traced back to Paul Newman's 1977 Slap Shot movie when there's this general fight on the ice within a few minutes of the first period and the radio announcer hutters these words into the mic.

If we could all live by this simple rule, many problems could be avoided.

Everything you do has to be in balance.

As I mentioned to you in the past you should be training a maximum of 3 times a week.

I keep very meticulous stats and my numbers are best when I allow the most time for recovery.

Sometimes taking an entire week off of doing a certain exercise I'm struggling with will work wonders.

The "Off time" won't just make you stronger but will also allow you to absorb it better. By that I mean, you will perform the exercise with less effort, you'll have better technique, you'll feel like you own the movement, it will be imprinted in your muscle memory.

Let nature take its course,

It's Louse Time! Serving the Mind or the Heart

If you're new to my list of focused, motivated, self- starters, Welcome.

(if you're not (new) jump right away to today's lesson below)

Every day I communicate to you the best ways to train and the kind of mindset it takes to get results either in your physical fitness or martial art training.

Today's lesson is: "Are you Serving the Mind or the Heart"

I'm sure you all had this happen to you in one way shape or form. For example, let's take buying a car.

For months you dream about it.

You've found the perfect car for you. You tell yourself when you get this car you'll be happy and you'll drive it for a very long time.

You get the car, you love the car. A few months go by and that mind of yours says: "There's this other car that just came out, it's nicer and faster than the car you have right now. Maybe you should change it".

The mind always finds a way to screw things up. It loves to measure itself and really, if you listen to it you'll notice it's never satisfied.

Some people do this with their wives and husbands, others with martial art styles, some with their careers, some with the latest fitness gadget, etc...

Make the shift from serving the mind to serving the heart. That is one reason why you've been put here, to MASTER that.

Before you do anything you ask yourself does this serve the mind or the heart. If it's heart you'll never be disappointed.

One way to develop this ability is by walking on fire. Join us Aug. 24 th at our Private Training Center by registering here.

Master Yourself,

Sifu Martin

P.S. As soon as you go to take your first step across the fire bed you'll know exactly who's doing the talking.

It's Louse Time! Removing Messes

2 months ago I told you about our Garage that collapsed under the weight of the snow and how burning it felt good and acted as a powerful metaphor of getting rid of useless baggage.

Something you should also consider in your life. Maybe not burn your garage for no good reason, that's not what I'm saying!

Look at every area of your life, find clutter and clean it. It has a very powerful impact on you mentally and allows you to attract more in your life. A mess or clutter subconsciously stops you from having more because it confirms you have a hard time managing what you already got, why should you have more?

So today I'm going through my closet and giving away clothes that I hardly ever wear to local charities, I'll do the same with my office so I can attract more wealth and business opportunities, few months ago I got rid of a lemon of a car (An Audi, yuk!) , we're cleaning the pagoda for our upcoming training camp, and the list goes on.

Is there anything you can think of right now that needs to be cleaned, thrown away or re-organized?

I'm sure you do.

Attack it. You'll feel like a weight is taken off your shoulders. You'll move ahead with more clarity without feeling like you have one foot on the brakes while the other's on the gas pedal.

Master Yourself (and what you own)

Sifu Martin

P.S. Something else I've been obsessed with is removing all unnecessary exercises and sticking to what works as far as physical conditioning goes. Here's the result of that obsession.

It's Louse Time! Learning from Mistakes

If you're new to my list of focused, motivated, self- starters, Welcome.

(if you're not jump right away to today's lesson below)

Today's lesson comes from my Grand-Father.

Not so much as in him giving me advice and having a talk together but just by learning from how he lives and the bad habits he lives with allows me to see into the future and gives me a clear view of what I can expect if I live my life like him.

If only people really knew what smoking does to you or what eating a high sugar/carb diet does to your kidneys and other organs, what high blood pressure & lack of exercise might do to your body, I can say by looking at my grand-father, it slowly kills you.

2 days ago I got a call from my parents telling me he was in the hospital after having suffered Kidney failure and will be hooked up to a dialysis machine maybe for the rest of his life.

I think most people from my grand-father's generation are mostly the same and have the same filthy habits. Is it ignorance? Bad models & influences? No education? I guess a combination of all of the above.

I'm just thankful I can learn from his mistakes and not repeat them.

How many people do that?

You know, learn from other people's mistakes, so you can live a longer, healthier, more vibrant life?

I hope YOU do.

All you need to do is go in a hospital to have visual, tangible proof of what people are doing wrong. That should be enough to force you to NOT make the same choices as they have.

Every generation should learn from the other and make wiser choices than the previous one.

Repeating the same mistakes is just plain stupid especially when you have the evidence staring right at you.

MASTER Yourself,

Sifu Martin

P.S. Next time I'll talk about how to stick to your plan no matter what. Considering you have one. Do you have a plan?

It's Louse Time! Don't give me Excuses

If you're new to my list of focused, motivated, self- starters, Welcome.

(if you're not jump right away to today's lesson below)

Every day I communicate to you the best ways to train and the kind of mindset it takes to get results either in your physical fitness or martial art training.

Since I'm 6 years old that scene has always stuck with me and I'll be using that same strategy with YOU every week.

Friday is where I share with you Life Lessons and Direction given to me by my dad (and Sifu) every Friday.

Today's lesson: "Don't give me Excuses give me Results"

I like this quote from Sgt O'Neill in Platoon: "Excuses are like assholes, Taylor. Everybody's got one!"

Did you ever catch yourself finding excuses (silently to yourself) or to someone asking you to do something you know needs to be done.

We all have a story we tell ourselves: "I would of done it if I had more time, if I had more experience, if I had more money, if I had..."

If you're after health, strength and success (I'm guessing this is the reason you're reading my blog since these are my main areas of interest) what's stopping you?

Here's another saying I like: "There's no excuses when you are the leader".

Are you the leader of your thoughts and actions?

If you're a leader you'll assume full responsibility for your level of fitness, happiness, wealth, confidence, and what you attract in your life. Good or Bad.

It's Louse Time!

If you're new to my list of focused, motivated, self- starters, Welcome.

Friday is where I share with you Life Lessons and Direction given to me by my dad (and Sifu) every Friday.

I call it "Louse Time".

Let me explain what "Louse Time" means.

If you look up the word "Louse" in the dictionary you'll get this definition:

"an offensive term that deliberately insults somebody's behavior and attitude."

What it means is we all need to have someone shake our tree every once and a while. There's a french saying that goes: "Te faire brasser la cage".

I think it's an absolute necessity if you ever want to get anything done.

Sometimes you get caught up in your routine and you need someone to snap you out of it.

What it does is, make you:

a) change a disempowering habit
b) carry less emotional baggage
c) take action on a goal or task you've been putting off
d) shift your focus and get out of your comfort zone

It might come under the form of a question, a discussion, an argument, or even an eye opening sparring match if we want to relate it to martial arts.

So who's gonna do the shaking?

That depends who you have in your "entourage". It can be one of your mentors, a friend you trust, you can do it yourself, or tune in on Friday's Louse Time.

So today's tree shaking task is: "Write a list of all the things you want to do, be or accomplish before you die" and start setting up a plan to get them done one by one, starting today.

Do I have your attention?

What are you waiting for? Get off your azz and start living the life you were born to live.

Aim Higher,

Sifu Martin

It's Louse Time!

As you might already know, every Friday is "Louse Time".

Many of my readers look forward to this weekly issue and I do to. My father once told me a long time ago:

"What you KEEP diminishes, What you SHARE multiplies".

Whenever I can share my personal experiences and what I've been through, just the thought of helping push you in the right direction when it comes to martial arts and physical fitness, keeps me motivated to write on a daily basis.

Sijo and my mother are gone to the Annual Americade Rally in Lake George.

They're expecting 50 to 60 thousand motorcycle riders this year. That must be quite a sight to see with people all over the world sharing their passion for riding.

As you might of read in Sijo's Bio, they had a near fatal motorcycle accident back in 1984.

For most people that would of been enough to sell the bike and never think of riding ever again.

I still remember getting the news, I was only 6 years old, and we were all playing outside having fun in the backyard while my grand-mother was babysitting us. You have all these images flash through your mind and the thought of losing your parents is un-thinkable. It was like a bad dream.

You ask yourself, Why me? Why us? Why did this happen? In the end you realize there is no why. You realize it's only a question of how much power you give it.

When I saw my parents leave on Wednesday it taught me an important lesson.

Do not let past experiences stop you from enjoying the things that make you happy or let them stop you from taking action on a goal or a dream for a second, third or even a fourth time.

"The past does not equal the future"

Even though I didn't have my own personal Louse Time today with Sijo this is what resonated with me when I woke up this morning.

Sifu Martin

P.S Speaking of future, what's in yours? health, vitality, strength and serenity? Those qualities are the by products of the secret 500 year old training system I'll be releasing very shortly.
Stay tuned.

It's Louse Time!

If you're new to my list of focused, motivated, self-starters, Welcome.

Today's lesson was about "VISION".

"A man or woman without vision is like a great stallion without its legs, a lion without its roar, an eagle without its wings"

As a child, you have strong visionary tendencies. You have big dreams of what you'd like to be and ideas of how you might like to "change the world".

Now that you're older what happened to those dreams?

Many have locked those away deep in the back of their minds where they might stay for a very long time.

Have you given up on the foolish notions of youth and learned to be a good, responsible adult and all grown up, because your conclusions now match what the masses seem to have known all along:

"I, as one person, don't really have that much power to make a difference"

"People are lazy and irrational, and nothing's really going to change"

"We have what's given to us"

Have a clear vision for yourself and stick to it. Vision gives us confidence, power, and purpose. Vision gives us the power to venture into the unknown, to blaze new trails, to create what never existed before.

On some level, many people want you to fail, not because they are mean people, but because, if you fulfill on your dreams, they are going to feel even worse that they gave up on their own.

FSD started in my father's imagination when he was about 9 years old.

Make YOUR vision a reality.

Master Yourself,

Sifu Martin

P.S. I said I would give you more info today about a special 500 year old kind of training. The video is now complete and in the duplication stage. Once that is complete I'll let you know how you can get a hold of it.

It's Louse Time!

If you're new to my list of focused, motivated, self-starters, Welcome.

Every day I communicate to you the best ways to train and the kind of mindset it takes to get results either in your physical fitness or martial art training.

Friday is always what I call: "Louse Time". Modeled after Bruce Lee's strategy in Enter the Dragon.

This is where I share with you Life Lessons and Direction given to me by my dad (and Sifu) every Friday.

So here goes.

Today we talked about Fang Shen Do. (What a surprise!)

It boils down to this: Fang Shen Do is about Learning and Succeeding

That is what we're all about.

Who doesn't want that?

Who's against that?

My father said it many times, in Life you're either growing or stagnating, climbing or sliding, living or dying.

In FSD you learn HOW to learn.

You first listen with your eyes. You listen with your ears and you listen with your body.

You then absorb and internalize what you learned through repetition and trial and error.

And finally, what you learned becomes second nature, a part of you. It becomes fully integrated.

Success is a moving target. If we take your training for example you can remember having a specific fitness goal that today seems like a joke because of your natural progression.

It might of been a certain number of push-ups or sit-ups, certain running time and distance, flexibility levels, performing specific feats of strength.

Where I'm getting at is remember to celebrate successes. You might be guilty of this as I am.

Often times you hit the goal you wanted to accomplish and then you immediately set another one, then another and so on.

My dad uses the example of a runner who spots a bench in the horizon (your goal), when he gets close to it to finally take a seat (celebrate) the bench disappears and re-appears in the horizon only to have the same thing repeat itself.

Avoid that mistake.

Celebrate and Master Yourself,

Sifu Martin
