Bodies Exposition Review in Montreal

During last week's March Break I had a chance to share special moments with my kids and family.

One thing that really stood out was what we did on Saturday.

This one thing, I can't get out of my head.

I mean, I've always been interested in the human body, nutrition and ways to stay happy, healthy, and vibrant.

But having a chance to actually see the human body from inside and see the effects smoking can have on your health and lungs, the fragility of the brain and nervous system, the importance of choosing wisely what you eat as well as engaging in daily exercise and the positive effects it has on your circulatory system was AMAZING.

I'm talking about the BODIES EXPOSITION in Montreal.

If someone goes through the exhibits and doesn't quit smoking on the spot and seriously starts eating right and ditching the junk food, I don't know what will.

What happens in our bodies on a daily basis is nothing short of a miracle.

The perfect balance and harmony of the various systems is mind boggling. Yet many people choose to purposely destroy the master control (i.e. the Brain) with mind altering drugs?

Or some choose to lead a sedentary lifestyle when one's body can be twisted and articulated in thousands of positions, equipped with muscles, tendons and ligaments that will adapt to loads and retain memory of those movements so they become easier with time.

Apart from the physical wonders of our body and what it can do mechanically it's interesting to note what movement can do for our mind, our energy and our emotions.

Ultimately adding Quality to your Life.

You've probably heard the saying: "The more motion you undertake the more emotion you will create"

I get my best ideas while in movement, training, or maintaining my martial art skills.

It connects me in a way that no other sport can.

This is why I urge you take up martial art training as the sport of choice, not only to get in shape but to optimize bodily function, maintain mental alertness, and stretch your imagination when it comes to what you can accomplish and create in your own life.

Legalized Drug Pushers

One week today I was boarding a plane for a business trip with my dad and happened to be sitting next to a group of high level pharmaceutical owners and employees who were on their way to the same hotel we were staying in for their end of year celebration.

I was close enough to hear some of the comments being passed around.

There must of been at least 30 of them.

One lady sitting next to us engaged in small talk and made a comment that pretty much sums up how the pharmaceutical industry really feels about our well-being and health:

"I like it when people are depressed and sick, we make more money".

Keeping you sick and treating your symptoms instead of the root cause of an illness means big bucks for these legalized drug pushers.

In my head I told myself: "You'll never make a dime off my back".

I'm also of the opinion that your health is in your hands, it's hard to tell these days if your doctor really has your best health at heart. How do you feel about that? Me, I was happy to know that I'm not their best customer.

In fact if everyone went to the hospital like I do, well there wouldn't be any hospitals or pharmaceutical companies would turn a "loss" every single year (instead of billions off of your back) and if there were hospitals, they would be for the people who really needs them.

Get in the habit of researching stuff for yourself. When a prescription is given, usually 10 times out 10 there's a cheaper, natural way of treating it.

I just got courses called Nutrition and Healing from Dr. Jonathan V. Wright. Eye opening stuff.

I'll let you know some of my findings in the coming weeks.

I'm not saying you should never visit your doctor. I'm just saying don't be so quick to reach for an over the counter drug or pay for a prescription given just to increase Big Pharma profits to later hear them brag about how many suckers bought their products.

I'm sure some drugs are important and vital to keeping someone alive during an operation or things of that nature.

But that lady really sealed the deal for me.

I'm going to be very careful to take care of MY health and I encourage you to do the same.

I hear and I forget

With 20 days into the new year, how are you doing?

Did you follow my advice and knock off the easiest goals on your list so you get the ball rolling and in turn create a surge of energy and excitement for the accomplishment of your other goals?
I hope you did.

I can tell you, I did that, and man am I ready to get things done this year.

It's just simply impossible to have different results if you do the same things, the same way, using the same words and repeating what you did last year.

"If you do what you have always done, you'll get what you've always got."

Trust me, start with the little goals and expand from there.

You'll build enough momentum and confidence to tackle your major goals.

A famous poet once said:

"I hear and forget.

I see and hear, and I remember.

However when I see, hear and DO, I understand and succeed."

Keep your goals fresh in your mind's eye.

Listen, read and stay inspired.

Finally, ACT on your goals daily.

Master Yourself,

Sibok M

P.S. Feeling good emotionally starts with feeling vibrant and strong physically. Learn an easy to follow plan to double your fitness level in 30 days or your money back. You can ACT on your fitness goals now by visiting this link.

Exercise Induced Nausea

Here's another unusual sign I saw in China I had never seen before.

And as Garth would say from the 1992 Smash Hit "Wayne's World":

"If you're going to spew, spew into this"

Believe it or not, every month or so, someone trying out a class in one of our schools needs to regurgitate or needs to sit down because they feel a bit of nausea.

Actually it's quite normal.

The common causes of exercise induced nausea are:
  • Working out on an empty stomach

  • Over-training
  • Dehydration

  • Non-active lifestyle
It's very important when starting your martial art training that you go to your own pace.
Even if you know you can push yourself harder, gradually work yourself up to that level by scaling back a bit on the level of intensity and exertion you put into each exercise.

If you do, let it be a big wake up call to finally get yourself in the best shape possible, make the right food choices and live a healthier lifestyle.

Here's what we do.

If a kid can do it so can you

Here's a picture of my 5 year old daughter fooling around on Malibu Beach.

I guess if you're not a parent this post might not interest you but... think again, I think you can find something of value here, read on.

Before she was born I saw myself teaching her everything I could about physical fitness, confidence, endurance, flexibility, creativity, and fostering the many qualitites of a martial artist in her.

As time went by, me and my spouse saw the positive influence implementing these qualities have had on her.

Being only 5 years old, she can already perform Pull-Ups from a dead hang as well as Chin-Ups, while holding her chin above the bar for close to a minute.

She can pump out 100 squats non-stop. 25 Nose to floor push-ups. Run 400m in under 3 minutes. Hold a hand stand. Hold a head stand. Bridge her body nose to floor with ease. And so on.

In my line of work I hear alot of excuses from grown men or women for the reasons they haven't started to make their health and fitness a number one priority, or the reasons they had to put it on hold, or the: "I would start if I wasn't so damn busy" crock.

Bull.

If a kid can progress to a level of strength like I mentioned above, the same can be accomplished in your own training.

You just need to start and there really is no limit to how strong, flexible, confident, or self-determined you can be.

What really happpens between childhood and adulthood?

Where does the enthusiasm go to?

It's still there but I think it's misdirected into things that drain you of energy compared to being revitalized by them.

The best way to start recharging your batteries is by engaging in daily activity and following a proven system to get amazing results.

These strategies are the same I've used with my own kids to help build their level of fitness to where it is today.

Let's get started now.

An important training secret

I was browsing some old pictures the other day and came upon a few of them that brought back some interesting memories.

One of them was a picture of my dad doing one-arm 2 finger push-ups back in 1977.

I remember thinking when I first saw that picture: "How am I ever going to do that?"

Or trying to do them in my basement when I was just a little kid and failing miserably, thinking my fingers were going to crack and bend backwards at the knuckles.

"How could I ever become strong enough to lift my own bodyweight on two little fingers?"

Many factors contributed to me eventually being able to perform this feat of strength, like following my father's advice, but there's also one thing that most people forget to include in their training.

Chances are YOU have forgotten to implement this critical component in your training.

Whenever you reach a level where you can easily perform a said exercise, you have to ask yourself: "What's next?"

If you're working with weights it has to be an increase in weight.

If you're running you have to cut your run time by 'X' time.

The same is true with bodyweight exercises like the ones we incorporate in our Fang Shen Do training.

This mentality is built into our training system and that's why it's such an effective way to train.

If you're not already training with our Basic Strength Training Kit, what are you waiting for?

If you already own the Basic System for the past 12 weeks why haven't you gotten the Intermediate level?

Your strength and endurance depends on it. Keep the ball rolling. Force your body to adapt by constantly challenging it.

There's just no other way to progress and get stronger but by asking yourself: "what's next?"

Put yourself to the test and see what kind of results you can get, you never know, with the right intensity and consistency doing those 2 finger push-ups just might become too easy and leave you asking the inevitable question.

Master Yourself,

Sibok Martin

P.S. Instead of figuring it out by yourself and spending years refining and deciding which exercises are best to build upon so you keep on progressing why not just pick up one of our Strength Training Kits today. Easiest thing you'll ever do.

What are you willing to settle for?

"What are you willing to settle for?"

What a great question.

It's the kind of question that puts everything in perspective.

What will you settle for physically?

An out of shape body, "taking it" as it comes and hoping to live a long vibrant life?

Is it letting your body deteriorate prematurely by exposing it to fast food, smoking, or drugs?

Or is it finally not having to worry about your weight by making daily exercise just as routine as brushing your teeth or taking a shower.

Maybe it's reaching a level of health, strength and endurance you can be proud of, taking your health in your own hands and leading an active lifestyle where no sport or activity is considered "Off Limits".

Isn't it time you finally mastered this area about yourself, feeling good in your skin and feeling like you're in total control of your body?

Here's the system I personally use to stay in top physical shape and this, in only minutes a day.

Our students already use this method of training with great results which is why alot of them possess the "at home" version of this course as well. Get started now.

Master Yourself,

Sibok M

P.S. Naturally once you're done asking yourself what you'll settle for physically, you'll want to ask yourself the same question for, what will you settle for emotionally and romantically? What will you settle for financially? What will you settle for in your carreer? Ask yourself these questions and see how quickly you feel recharged and unwilling to settle for second best.

Training with Cecil Peoples

I'm back!

Maintaining my daily tips and blogs is somewhat of a challenge while being away from my home for so long.

One more week and everything will be back to normal.

On to my number 6 instructor while here in LA.

Apart from being a referee and judge during many MMA events, like the last UFC 100, he's also doing a string of reality shows and trains alot of stars in the area.

I'm talking about the one and only Cecil Peoples.

Before getting to meet him, Bob Wall related a story about him during his early referee days.

He was a referee during a Thai Boxing match between an American and a Thai in which the American was winning.

Nobody likes to lose to a foreigner especially when the sport you're competing in is native to your country.

Out of frustration the Thai fighter started *accidentally* kicking the american fighter in the groin.

2 Warnings later, Cecil stops the fight.

Declaring the American, the winner.

Out of anger the Thai Fighter tried to kick Cecil in the head.

Cecil deflected it and knocked him out with one punch.

Very seldomly do we see the Ref doing the knocking out part.

So that's my introduction to Cecil Peoples.

This guy is tough and has been there, done that.

I was always taught to be immune to criticism or praise. Believing neither one was good for my development.

But when a guy like Cecil compliments you on your speed & power in front of a group of experienced fighters, I can't help but to take it at heart.

Up to now, I can tell all FSD practitioners (whether students inside one of our schools or around the world) that what you're learning is top notch.

Take just our Strength Training Kits for example which we've been improving and refining for the past 35 years.

It will help lay, like it did for me, a strong fitness foundation to adapt yourself to any sport you undertake, avoid injuries and increase flexibility at the same time.

If you're a martial artist and still you haven't been using our Station Training System, what are you waiting for?

Get yours here and see what kind of difference it can make in your training.

Master Yourself,

Sibok M

P.S. If for some reason you didn't know who Cecil was, the next fighter I worked with while in LA is known throughout the world for his devastating leg kicks. Stay tuned.

In search of Excellence

Not a day goes by that I don't ask myself: "How can I make this better?" or "What can I learn from this?" or "What's the best advice I can give my readers?"

These questions always remind me I'm on the path of Mastery.

Not always an easy path to be on.

This path has many Plateaus but nevertheless, I've learned to enjoy Plateaus.

You've certainly reached, at some point in your training, a place where you feel like you're stagnating or just barely making improvements.

Depending on how you view this, the plateau might be a bad thing or a good one.

In a society based on instant gratification, reaching a plateau might be viewed as a sign that you're not training hard enough or maybe, what you're doing isn't working.

Not so.

For a student on the path of mastery, plateaus are welcomed and required.

I've talked before about drills you can do to "stretch the brain" and create new neural pathways as well as using keywords to enhance your performance giving you a slight edge over someone who's not using them.

But using these techniques and getting the results you're looking for won't happen over night.

Just repeating a mantra or affirmation, blindfolding yourself or playing Sudoku once isn't enough to cause the mind to, in a sense, re-wire itself to be more efficient.

Just like how getting Fat or losing it doesn't happen in a matter of days, they are habits you've maintained that eventually led to a result.

If you quit at the first sign of a plateau you'll never succeed at anything. There are many quick fixes available but none of them are of interest to the student that's on the the path of mastery.

You are willing to wait for your ligaments and muscles to thicken over time through diligent, specific strength training.

You realize like walking, you eventually became successful at it and you realize the challenge of moving your body in a new movement or technique is only a matter of time before your mind, body and nervous system work together to make those movements natural and effortless.

You also realize flexibility, is an "acquired taste", the first few times you try it, it ain't so fun but with persistency, flexibility will lead to greater speed and will actually get you in a very calm state.

The student on the path of mastery also learns to reap great joy from the mere act of doing, fully embracing the moment, not allowing the mind to wander where it's been and where it's going.

There's no rush. If you focus all of your attention on that climactic day where you actually GET what you were looking for, you just might realize like I have, that the journey is way better than the destination.

Enjoy the process, a plateau simply points out you need a bit more time to absorb what it is you're working on.

For you it might be Flexibility.

Maybe it's finally getting fit and following an effective Fitness Program.

Whatever it is you'll find something of interest here to start your journey.

Take home this lesson

Close to 600 People converged in Casselman this weekend for our 30 th Anniversary Training Day.

You could really feel the electricity in the air as students from all locations trained and exchanged energy with each other.

Just like a family gathering, it was nice to see familiar faces and get to know other students from our large network of schools.

If you were there you know what I'm talking about. Having the chance to train so many elements of FSD all at one time, Sanshou/Kickboxing/Muay Thai, Weapons, Kettlebells, Energy Drills, Weapons, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Wrestling, gave students a chance to put everything to the test.

I really felt like I was back in France (2008 Convention) where we had to train groups of 25-30 people non stop for 3 days.

At the same time I was very happy for my Mom and Dad, trying to think about how they felt when they saw all those people arriving at the event. What started as just a dream in my dad's imagination, then to one student in a church basement, to one school and what we have today?

Amazing.

What's great about dreams his, you can have more than one!

When dreams and goals start manifesting themselves through vision, taking action and staying determined to see it come true, you build momentum.

When you think of it, when trying to pin point what makes us successful or what did we do to become successful, it boils down to not one big idea or decision but rather, thousands of mini-successes spread over 30 years.

Kinda like you and your fitness goals.

You won't get fit by doing a Station Circuit once a month or every year.

Just like you won't get stronger if you lift a Kettlebell or dumbell once in a blue moon.

It takes repetition.

Consistency and progression over time leads to results.

Making the right choices consistently will guarantee you get what you want and when it comes to fitness and health, you'll be able to look back and look at yourself now with a sense of pride and accomplishment knowing and feeling you did the right thing.

When you look at yourself in the mirror you have live, concrete evidence and proof of the kinds of choices you've made in your life.

Are you happy with the result?

Tack on another 10 years in your mind's eye. What do you look like now? Does the person in the mirror reflect someone who made the right choices when it came down to your strength, health and vitality?

As they say the proof is in the puddin', something we proved this weekend when it comes to our integrity as a top notch martial art school and organization now it's your turn to prove to yourself you can be in the best shape of your life if you just apply the core principles as taught in our Fitness Training System.

Master Yourself,

Sifu Martin

P.S I'll be posting lots of pictures on the blog from this weekend shortly as well as short video clips from the Sanshou matches. Stay tuned.

Add 30 minutes to your day

Time.

We all have time right?

How are YOU using yours?

The quality of your life is in direct proportion to how you use your time.

The Choices you make.

And what you CHOOSE to focus on.

You and I are like managers, we have 24 hours in a day to work with and our success depends on how well those hours and minutes are spent.

How many minutes and hours a day do you think you waste doing something that either, doesn't get you closer to your goals or sucks the life out of you, leeching precious energy that could be used more productively to improve yourself on a personal level.

Let's look at areas where we can cut, add, or restructure your time in such a way to give you more time to focus on one area you should diligently concentrate on:

Personal Development.

Let's take your morning for example. Could you wake up 30 minutes earlier than you are right now to focus on personal development.

Could you end your workday 30 minutes later to focus on personal development?

What about going to bed 30 minutes later while you work on your personal development.?

Could you use half of your lunch break to focus on personal development?

What skills could you acquire if you put this strategy into play. An extra 2 hours a day to invest in yourself. 60 hours a month. 720 hours a year.

What if half of those hours were commited to physical fitness, what kind of body would you have at the end of the year.

And what if the other half was spent listening or reading empowering books on a subject of interest that would make you better at your job, inspire you to start your own business or learn a new skill or language?

Add 30.

It's the best thing you can do for yourself.

When you think of it, these minutes will get spent anyways, why not be master of your destiny?

Just like how we breathe one breath at a time, in our Station Training, we take it one 1 minute at at time. It's one of the most efficient ways to train, you won't see the time go by and before you know you'll have put in a great workout.

See what I mean here.

Master Yourself,

Sifu Martin
P.S. Getting fit doesn't have to take lots of time, you just need to know key strategies and follow a proven system.

Disguise Exercise

Do you realize some people actually view exercise as work and therefore decide not to engage in it?

Many of you might have associated massive amounts of pain with exercising because you felt so much of it the day after your first training, making you question why you decided to get in shape and follow a fitness program in the first place.

I normally categorize someone's fitness level with "Days of Recovery" you require to get rid of all soreness.

It's worth mentioning on a side note that once you have more experience and "time in" training you look for that soreness the day after to judge how hard you pushed yourself.

If you feel nothing you're either in tremendous physical shape or you failed to give your maximum output.

More on that later.

From a beginner's standpoint I follow these basic rules:

If you need one day of recovery you're in decent shape.

If you take 2 to 3 days to recover and can hardly walk up stairs or sit on the toilet bowl or get out of bed, you really need to stick to your plan and exercise regularly.

If you take 4 days or more to recover you seriously need to look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself: "no matter how great the soreness you might feel now from exercising, it will pale in comparison to the kind of pain and health issues that await you in the future.

Heart Attacks, High Blood Pressure, Gallstone operations, Lack of Energy, Circulation problems, Diabetes and Obesity are far more painful than the muscle soreness you experience after your first few workouts.

Being a martial art teacher for the past 20 years you have no choice but to evolve and be constantly improving how you communicate with your students to get the best results.

And sometimes it also means helping students by disguising repetition, creating a variety of drills which uses the same technique but presented 10 different ways, this is also very effective when working with kids which as you know, have an even shorter attention span than adults.

In general we get bored easily and exercising for some might be tedious and boring but it doesn't have to be that way.

Today I thought I'd give you ways to "Disguise Exercise".

One way to disguise exercise is to blend it into your day.

Exercise along side the most common daily chores. Wake up in the morning and instead of walking to the bathroom get down on hands and feet and crawl there without allowing any other body part to touch the floor. Hold a wall sit while brushing your teeth. With the help of the kitchen counter, hold your leg up off to the side and hold for as long as possible while your eggs boil. If you sit in front of a desk all day, squeeze your butt and flex your calves while you work.

Take small steps this way and give your body a chance to adapt while you implement healthy habits such as daily exercise.

Think of yourself as a fighter. You always want to be ready, use every moment of the day to strenghten yourself.

When you think of it we're all fighters. We're all fighting to make a living, to leave our mark, to make a difference, to achieve some level of success and happiness, to defend against cravings which slowly weaken us, to make the right choices.

Speaking of choices, I gave just a few examples of what you can do throughout the day to squeeze in exercise. Our Basic Strength Training System offers 50 different bodyweight exercises which can be performed anytime of the day.

Remember, one of the things your body craves the most is Oxygen. As you implement little exercises here and there throughout the day and make demands on your body it will come to crave them, one exercise at first might become 3 or 5, maybe even 10. This in turn might lead you to train in the morning when you wake up because you feel so good after you've exercised.

Try it and let me know how it goes.

Master Yourself,

Sifu Martin

P.S. Exercising is the fastest way to optimize your body's chemistry and improve productivity throughout the day. Learn how to do that here.

It's Louse Time! Fear of Success

If you're new to my list of focused, motivated, self- starters, Welcome.
(if you're not new jump right away to today's lesson below)

Every day I communicate to you the best ways to train and the kind of mindset it takes to get results either in your physical fitness or martial art training.

Friday is always what I call: "Louse Time". Modeled after Bruce Lee's strategy in Enter the Dragon.

You know that part where he's having tea with the government agent but he's disturbed by one of his students and Bruce Lee tells the agent: It's Louse Time! The agent replies with his British accent: "yes of course".

Since I'm 6 years old that scene has always stuck with me and I'll be using that same strategy with YOU every week.

Friday is where I share with you Life Lessons and Direction given to me by my dad (and Sifu) every Friday.

Today's lesson is: Fear of Success

Did you know more people have a fear of success than a fear of failure?

When it comes to fitness, more people will choose to avoid exercising and losing weight, miss out on the opportunity to transform their body while raising their self-esteem and be generally happier just to please other people.

"If I lose weight and look better than ever what will my friends say about me?"

"If I get strong and independent, my spouse might feel threatened and feel like they're losing their control over me"

"I've never been good at anything why should I even start, I'll fail anyway"

"My whole family is fat, I'm doomed, it's my family genes"

"Once I get slim and toned I won't be able to enjoy the food I really like"

And the classic statement that goes: "It won't last forever. You know what THEY say, after 30 your metabolism starts slowing down, so why bother?

Who is They?

When you listen to people talk, pay attention to the words being used.

THEY is just another way to pass the responsibility to someone else.

When it comes to fitness, your health, your family, your business, your life, THEY have absolutely no say in anything.

It's your responsibility.

Maybe that's the biggest fear of success. Responsibility.

Are you ready to assume it?

Every man and woman should be able to run a mile, do a minimum of 50 push-ups and sit-ups, stretch and touch their toes, bike at full speed for 10 km, swim 10 laps and put in a full days work every once in a while without eating anything and not be affected by it.

Once every citizen understands that, we'll have a society that is strong and willing to take full responsibility for our happiness, results, success, motivation and our future.

Practicing Martial Arts makes you quickly understand that. No significant development can be achieved without concentrated effort and discipline.

Since it's my dad's birthday this week (Feb 18 th) I'd like to invite you to put any of our products to the test and take advantage of a 18% percent discount on any one of them by simply punching in '18' in the coupon/promotion box at check out.

FSD Product Page

There is great pride in knowing the results you've gotten in any area of your life, especially physical fitness, was your way of staring fear of success in the face and proving to yourself that results can be long lasting when you apply a bit of perseverance, sprinkled with consistent effort.

Putting Fitness First

I never get tired of receiving and reading success stories especially when I know the people on my list can benefit from them. Today I reached in the old mail box and thought I'd share Bill's Story.
----
"Sifu Martin,

In response to your daily email, I just wanted to share briefly "my story"

I have had an office job for the past 15 years. Over that time my health gradually declined to the point where I was scared to really exert myself for fear of a heart attack.

At the start of the summer my wife and I signed my son up for the "Army" run, so I decided to take up jogging so I could be in the run with him.

At the same time, I spoke with Sifu Scott about my son attending his school, and Sifu Scott challenged me to join as well.

I said "I am not in shape yet...maybe after the summer". He pointed out that Fang Shen Do will get me in shape, and there is no better time than the present to start. It has been four months and in that time I have developed a real enjoyment of the physical (brutal) workouts.

I am now able to do about 25 sit-ups in a row, when prior to joining I could do exactly ZERO. My confidence has greatly increased, and I feel so pumped for each class. I am having the time of my life, and I am feeling so much stronger and healthier than before.

I know I have a long way to go, but I am giving it 100%. As one man put it "practice does not make perfect, practice IS perfect!".

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

SMP: Bill, Awesome. I'm sure your son is proud of you and gave him a powerful lesson of leading by example. The best is yet to come in your training I can guarantee you that.

I'd say that's a pretty good return on his investment, from 0 Sit-Ups to 25, that's one hell of an increase. Just goes to show what you can accomplish if you just decide to start. The hardest part is to take that first step and then to stick with it.

It couldn't be easier, if you're not a member yet visit our classes section to get a Free 30 day pass to any of our schools. Or follow through on the fitness commitments you've made this year and get started on our Strength Training System today.

Teen is kung fu and pushup king

I was particularly impressed when I read this article, I thought I would share parts of it with you.

Talk to any parent who has teens in the house and they'll tell you it's not always easy to motivate their kids (even themselves for that matter), especially when it comes to physical training.

There are always exceptions to the rule.

One of our students in Kingston got named Athlete of the Week by the newspaper "Kingston this Week" recently.

At 16, Tristan Euringer recently broke a 40-year pushup record at the Kingston Collegiate and Vocational Institute, doing 55 pushups in one minute.

"Martial arts is an athletic outlet for me, it has been for a long time now" Euringer says.

"For me, kung fu is where mental and physical philosophies merge, and the things that happen between the mind and the body make sense."

One thing for sure, Martial Art Training will give you unusual abilities and strength and endurance are some of them.

He went on to say: "My ultimate goal in the (Fang Shen Do) system is to earn my black sash and continue training and expanding my knowledge of martial arts", "I snowboard as a hobby and do regular daily workouts to keep in shape, but Fang Shen Do is the pillar of my athletic life and I hope to master it."

I think Tristan is setting an excellent example for all of us. There is no limit to what you can accomplish with the right instructor and the right training program in place.

The FSD Fitness Program is designed to transform your body and give you the right mental attitude to tackle any obstacle you might face. At the core of the program you'll find 3 major areas of development:

Progressive Improvement (through the different colored training kits)

Full Commitment (being engaged emotionally and harvesting a never give up attitude)

Full Body (learning to use your body in one unit so every link in the chain is sturdy)

Whether it's setting new fitness records in your school or just setting personal best records in the comfort of your own home, when you train the way we do, lasting results are just around the corner. You can see what I'm talking about here.

Never Again

While you get set for this new year ask yourself: "What am I fed up about?"

What must absolutely change this year?

If you find nothing to change or improve upon, that's great, I'm happy for you.

I don't know about you but there are still many things in my life and in my training that I want to improve on.

If you also feel this way, good. It means you don't want to settle for mediocrity and you possess the discipline to constantly set a high standard for yourself.

One thing for sure though, if you don't get disturbed or angry about the current situation you're in or about a destructive habit you subject yourself to or you fail to back up your desire for change with some emotion you'll either never change or the change will be temporary.

You have last year to look back on. What did you start last year but didn't finish?

How much time went by before you cracked and gave in?

Become a master at following through and it starts with two simple words: "Never Again"

Those 2 words should echo through your mind this year.

When you catch yourself thinking of giving up on your goals of training 3 times a week or catch yourself reaching for food you know goes against your goal of losing X amount of pounds, say it with strength: "Never Again".

When someone tries to discourage you from making a career change or tries to sabotage your efforts, say it with strength: "Never Again"

This is the perfect time to start something new. This time of year, your motivation should be at an all time high.

Act on it.

What better way than to get started with one of our strength training kits. If you're a student you'll enjoy having the freedom to use it in between classes. If you're not one yet, you'll be surprised at how easy and fast they are to follow. Once the area of Fitness is taken care of, all your other goals will be that much easier to accomplish this year.

Your fitness kit awaits here.

Never rest on your laurels

Yesterday we re-connected with Nick Hewitson, World Muay Thai Champion, with over 100 fights to his credit without ever suffering a loss.

In past blogs I had mentioned we had met him while touring in Europe earlier this year.

A very nice man and very knowledgeable in his field. What he teaches is very authentic, brutal and challenging. I realize this is not for everybody. That's why a special program will be offered in our schools for those who want to step up to that level.

Most Muay Thai schools today offer a very watered down version of the art. To quote Nick: "Alot of people today just want to wear the nice shorts and pretend they're doing Muay Thai".

I found it inspiring that even after retiring from fighting professionally, he's still training, still tough, still in shape and still passionate about the art.

Naturally we gravitated towards him since he shares some of the same beliefs about training intensity, assholes on forums who talk a big game, belly masters and the like.

You can never rest on your laurels and that goes for you too. Always challenge yourself and seek out new ways to push yourself past certain thresholds.

Without a doubt if it wasn't for the training we regularly subject ourselves to with our Station Training we wouldn't of been able to complete the drills he asked us to perform.

Since we train to end a confrontation in 30 seconds or less, a minor adjustment had to be done to last 4 minute plus rounds.

Once again it reinforces the element I've been talking about for a while now, Conditioning First, once that is in place you can make everything else happen.

Train in as many ways possible, change it up, make sure that what you're doing are full body workouts, train to exhaustion, switch intervals from 1 minute through 5 minutes, and train your will to never give up.

Those are the core elements of Station Training. Everything has been laid out for you in our Strength Training Kits.

Training the way we do leaves you ready to tackle any physical activity and gives you the ability to adapt to any sport or workout.

Be careful not to do "Too much, Too soon". Station Training is the perfect way to build your endurance in such a way that is progressive, at your own pace, and already tested for you.

Maybe you don't want to step in the ring with a Muay Thai fighter but you want to make damn sure you're in the best possible shape and that you're commited to stay strong, healthy and vibrant for as long as you can.

Fitness Standards

I'm getting interesting feedback from my e-mail yesterday asking how you measured up to the Men's Health Standards.

I can't say that I'm really surprised about the stats from our students. Setting high fitness standards is a major priority in our school.

Naturally, our students excelled well past the MH standards.

Here's David and Tyler's Stats report from Laval, Qc and Ottawa, Ont., Fang Shen Do Schools:

The 1-Mile Challenge
MH Fit: >6 minutes
Davidk: 5:18 minutes
Tyler: 4.5 minutes

The Single-leg Squat Test
Pause 1 second in the down position, then push yourself up.
MH Fit:>5 reps
Davidk: 30 reps each leg
Tyler: 15 reps each leg

The Vertical Jump Test
How to do it: Against a wall, extend your arm and mark your reach
with chalk. Then jump as high as you can and make another mark. The
space between marks is your vertical jump.

MH Fit:>24 inches
Davidk: 23 inches no sprint, with sprint 29 inches
Tyler: didn't bother.

The Chinup Challenge
MH Fit:>9 reps
Davidk: 30 reps
Tyler: 15 reps

The Pushup Test
Lower yourself until your chest touches the floor.

MH Fit:>49 reps
Davidk: 65 reps non-stop
Tyler: 90 reps

Where do YOU stand compared to these stats?

Anyone with common sense would tell these 2 guys to keep doing what they're doing, it's working.

Master Yourself,

Sifu Martin

P.S. If you were late sending those stats in you can still do so here.

P.P.S. If you're not a student yet and would like to get the same results pick up one of our strength training kits or to become a student, check for a location near you here.

An easy mental exercise you can do

One of my favorite movies of all time is Braveheart.

I know every scene by heart and me and my lil' Bro can act out pretty much any one of them with the Scottish Accent.

Hilarious.

Although recently, I haven't had a chance to watch it.

There's one scene that I especially like (actually I like all the scenes). It's just one keyword I use when I'm training.

You've heard me talk about that before, you know Keywords?

A keyword can be used many different ways.

One way is to choose a word that will help you keep the conscious and subconscious mind occupied while doing a certain exercise. It might help you squeeze out a few more minutes when holding a strength position. (Tigers, Hand Stand, etc...)

Back to the scene, William Wallace and his army have constructed wood spears, long as a man, and the Royal Cavalry is charging towards them. Wallace's army is anxious to attack but he holds them back using the keyword I use when holding a Back Bends or Forearm Push-Ups.

He waits until the very best moment to lift the spears from the ground and they end up impaling the enemy badly. It was a great strategy.

The way he says it with intensity and commitment, that's one of the words I like to use when giving up just isn't an option. You'll have to watch the movie if you don't know the answer.

Once you have the keyword you'll need to know which exercises to apply this on. For that you'll need to pick up a strength training kit right here.

Intentio superus,

Sifu Martin
